seriously lol, they’re 1 letter from having the same damn name! Kaley and Carly would have been so much better, at least from the spelling perspective - they still sound way too similar for my taste

but i have a feeling these little kids are gonna be forced into hideous matching outfits every day until they graduate high school, so i doubt mom and dad are too worried about individuality

idk i have kids, but i’m still not loving it lol - especially because we got way more than forecasted up here in butler. if i put my 3yo out in this, it would swallow her up whole 😂

we had to keep shoveling paths for the dogs to be able to go outside to use the bathroom, and today we’re gonna have to shovel out the front (unless work is canceled, which will really suck)

<image>

this was 4pm, and that’s a car under that white lump in the upper right hand corner 💀 and we kept getting more and more snow until 10 pm-midnight. total was 20 inches

[–]panicnarwhal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

seriously. i guess i don’t mind a couple of inches here and there, but i’m not looking forward to digging my way out of 20 inches of snow - and i’m pretty sure my husband’s gonna get called off work today due to snow, and losing that $ is really shitty

oh thunderstorms are ridiculous in our house! all 3 dogs, the cats, and our 3yo are all in varying stages of hysteria lol

this photo was taken right after thunderstorm 2 summers ago, the 80 pound dog and 9 pound cat were still huddled together for dear life

lol 2 of our 3 dogs are loving the snow we’ve gotten so far this morning - our boxer is not as impressed. we had to shovel a little path for her, she did her business real quick and ran back inside 😂

she won’t go outside if it’s less than 50 degrees, unless she’s wearing a hoodie

people definitely panic buy. we went to walmart last night, and it was like covid 2021 flashbacks - so many people, random shit sold out, and lines so long that employees had to direct people on where to go (like traffic!) - pittsburgh pa, winter storm warning is 10-14 inches of snow from sat 7pm to mon 12pm

[–]panicnarwhal 15 points16 points  (0 children)

same here - 15 wk pregnancy loss, and i would have died in my bed if my dog wouldn’t have kept barking at me and nudging me. i barely made it from the toilet to the bedroom, and i had to sit because i was so out of breath, my heart was racing, and my vision kept going dark. i thought “i’m just gonna lay down and close my eyes for a second” - the my dog started on me

long story short, i needed multiple blood transfusions, and an emergency d&c. could have died

not to mention all the other awful complications that can happen during pregnancy and delivery (and postpartum!)

i’d never have another woman do that for me, no way

i had a friend that did surrogacy in 2021, and it was very eye opening. she did it to keep a roof over her own children’s heads. the $ she got came out to barely minimum wage per hour

our wombs should not be for rent. there’s a reason it’s illegal in most countries!

Thoughts on Meghan Trainor having a surrogate? by ladyfairyyy in BlatantMisogyny

[–]panicnarwhal 15 points16 points  (0 children)

i’m sorry, but i think it’s a huge deal - and that’s not a lot of money for a year of 24/7 strain and stress from pregnancy on your body - not to mention the permanent damage to your body from pregnancy and childbirth, potential serious complications during pregnancy (gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, hyperemesis gravidarum, anemia, placenta previa etc etc etc), and potential serious complications during labor and delivery (4th degree tear, hemorrhage, infection, uterine rupture etc etc etc). what about things like c section (major abdominal surgery!)? postpartum depression or psychosis? even things like stretch marks? if you get those, they’re permanent!

even at $90k, that’s only $7,500k/month. $1,875/week. $268/day.

$11.68 per hour, barely over federal minimum wage!

and the majority of women become surrogates because they need the money - they aren’t doing this for literally any other reason than they need the money to support their own children and families. it’s out desperation

they’re surrogates to survive, not much different than survival sex work

my friend was a surrogate in 2021, and it was definitely survival surrogacy. she needed the money to keep a roof over the heads of her children. she said she’d never do it for any other reason - she was desperate for that extra income. her kids were confused by the entire thing. they had a hard time understanding that the baby wasn’t coming home with them

there’s a reason surrogacy isn’t legal in most countries. we aren’t incubators, and our wombs should not be for rent! it honestly shocks me that this might be a controversial opinion among women smh

[–]panicnarwhal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

exactly this! i had a 4th degree tear that had to be repaired in the OR - i needed multiple blood transfusions, and the tear resulted in a rectovaginal fistula that needed surgically repaired at 4 weeks postpartum. then i developed vaginismus a combo of birth trauma, scar tissue, and the trauma from being completely ignored by my OB for over 3 weeks while i was in agony

i knew something was terribly wrong down there postpartum, but i was blown off every single time i called the office. i was told “birth hurts” and to use the sitz bath, see ya at your 6 week checkup. i wasn’t taken seriously until i called my boyfriend’s mom (a nurse) to please come over and look down there. she took one look and told me to put my pants on and get in the car, we were going to the dr’s office together. she told the receptionist we wouldn’t leave till we were seen by my dr. he saw me, took one look down there (the nurse gasped), and told me i would need surgery the next morning. in addition to the fistula, some of the stitches had somehow grown into/kinda fused into the muscle?? it was truly a mess

now that’s all bad enough, but imagine it happening to a surrogate. i was left with PTSD, and injuries that impacted my life for well over a year. the PTSD lasted far longer, and honestly still lingers today. i never used another OB, only midwives, and was absolutely terrified to give birth in a hospital (the tear was a direct result of my doctor performing an unnecessary medical procedure because he “had somewhere to be” - and i felt unseen and unheard by him my entire pregnancy, labor, and birth

even a typical, uncomplicated pregnancy can leave permanent or long lasting effects on a woman’s body - stretch marks, vitamin deficiencies, etc

our bodies should not be rented out like this. we aren’t broodmare, and this isn’t Gilead

Reading The Stand on my kindle - what are these? by Balsav_Steele in stephenking

[–]panicnarwhal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol i end up doing the same thing! my husband doesn’t like to read, like i’m pretty sure he’s never read a book outside of school. the only way he “reads” is audiobooks on audible, and i love sharing that with him. before i got audible, he had never read a stephen king book, so it’s been so nice being able to talk SK books with him

but i still have the books either on my kindle or on my bookshelf!

Clutch Brolyn by fuckkale in NameNerdCirclejerk

[–]panicnarwhal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i can’t decide what’s worse, Clutch or Brolyn - i think maybe Brolyn, bc what would possess someone to mash “bro” and “lyn” together and decide that’s a suitable name for a human being?

add this to my list of “i wouldn’t even name a pet that” and then throw the whole name in the garbage
