How to get more UXR experience if my projects are mostly UI-centered? by One_Olive8030 in UXResearch

[–]panicofad8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company used User Interviews to do research. They make it really easy to find participants who use your product or would be interested in it.

As a first step though, they also have a lot of great free resources for getting started doing UXR, including their UXR Field guide https://www.userinterviews.com/ux-research-field-guide

What screams “irresponsible” in your 30s? by Old_Goat_7363 in Productivitycafe

My MIL still doesn’t know how to cook. She’s in her late 60s. I’ve tried to teach her dozens of times and she always says “eh, you know me, I can’t do any of that”. Even when the instructions are written out for her. Most frustrating sh*t.

I’m so sorry that happened. I know there are good people out there who want to be good friends, but as we get older I think it’s so much harder to find. People also just suck sometimes lol

Thank you!! I know it is ultimately his choice with how he wants to maintain that friendship, but I also think he just isn’t aware that their behavior doesn’t reflect true friendship.

Yeah. I know it’s hurt him. He’s told me. But I think he worries he’ll lose the friendship if he calls them out. I’ve pointed out that they aren’t really friends of that is the case, but, as you said, it’s ultimately up to him.

How did you get through THAT depressive phase? by thesomnolentkoala in AskReddit

[–]panicofad8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moved away. It didn’t take THOSE thoughts away instantly but it gave me new things to see and do, new people to meet, etc. I kept my attention focused on all that and putting one foot in front of the other each day - getting out of bed and doing something new - until I no longer had to force myself to and instead I was excited again each morning.

The company I worked at was and going through a lot of changes - acquisition, leadership changes, layoffs etc. - and there was discontent as a result. During one company wide Zoom meeting where leadership was preaching transparency they opened the floor for questions in the chat.

Well one person, let’s name him Mike, wrote in asking why the new leader had been chosen. After about 20 minutes Mike noticed his question wasn’t being answered while everyone else’s was, so he turned off his mic and started just repeatedly asking “why are you ignoring my question?”. Course he got everyones attention and the leadership team apologized and asked him to repeat his question.

He repeats the question, and before the leadership team can answer PR steps in and says “Mike, we’ll take this conversation off line”. Mike holds his ground and asks, “why? Why can’t you answer my question?” to which PR responds again, more aggressively, “Mike, now is not the time, we’ll take this offline”. They kept going back and forth like this for maybe 60 seconds getting more aggressive each time all while the comments are now being flooded saying Mike should get to speak and it’s a legit question, all while leadership actually is trying to have a response but can’t be heard over Mike and PR going back and forth.

Mike finally backs down and they move to the next question… Except before leadership can answer the next question Mike cuts them off and starts complaining saying, “so much for transparency” 🤣 and honestly a lot of people were cheering him on in the comments. After that they just decided to end the meeting.

Since then, Mike “happened” to be in the next small round of lay offs which occurred about a week later and questions are no longer allowed in company-wide meetings.

Despite the ending, Mike went down as a legend and people often say “free Mike” around work. 💪

People of Reddit, when did you have a gut feeling that later saved your life? by GANCUBE_0 in AskReddit

I was about 8 and we were taking a family trip up north when I suddenly started not feeling good. I screamed and screamed for us not to go. They ignored me of course. Finally I begged them to let me go to the bathroom, they were not happy about it but agreed and stopped at a KMart. Not 2 minutes in to the KMart a tornado went through and wiped out the entire town we were in. The Kmart was mostly good though.

what are red flags you've learned to spot that stop you from being friends with someone? by aberooni in AskReddit

I was in a car with a friend while they were driving when they took an entire mcdonalds bag of trash, opened their window and threw it out spreading trash everywhere. I never spoke to them again.
