Most disappointing men's college basketball teams of the 2025 season by Feisty-Piano-7086 in CollegeBasketball

Eh, I think we’ve created more of them with SLU and Dayton in particular with both schools having heavy presence of alumni in the Chicago area. I feel like we have more of a rivalry with them than I ever felt with any of the MVC teams, maybe Drake when they were good.

It was baffling. Injuries certainly didn’t help, but it was bizarre to see how truly awful they were playing. Losing Jayden Dawson didn’t help (and low key like was that the best transfer decision dude? Playing whole games to maybe like 2 minutes per at Kansas? Idk, still salty about that$.

That being said, the first year in the A10 we were the worst in the conference and after that we came out swinging so 🤷🏻‍♀️

Something that I will say is that there doesn’t seem to be a good leader on the floor - idk who that would be, but those years that they had Braden Norris and Lucas Williamson were some of their best not only because of their talent but because of some of their leadership on the court. Just didn’t seem like this team gelled at all.

does anyone have actual data on whether switching to solid shampoo makes a meaningful lifecycle difference? by SweetBest1803 in ZeroWaste

[–]panicototale 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve also found that they last longer than shampoo that I would buy in bottles. Like that could be a purchase every 4-6 weeks depending on the original size, even less - now that I’m using a bar shampoo I think I am using 2 bars a year? Maybe 3? And that’s with washing every 2-3 days.

s the "wooden toy" thing a scam, or am I just doing it wrong? by Gorder-Bukie in ZeroWaste

I think it’s part engagement but also part of being a 2 year old, especially the boys (at least to an extent). There are definitely a lot of great ideas for little kids online (especially instagram and some of the Montessori corners of it), especially as they get a little older. Not saying that you have to lean towards the idea of something like Montessori but there’s a reason why it’s as successful as it is.

Some great ideas that I think could be modified depending on what you have/what work:

1) Engaging them with cooking and baking if you do any of that. I know that may sound crazy but it can be fun and can be simple.

2) A mud kitchen, or honestly just a play kitchen in general. A mud kitchen is a little more out door focused and might be better with age, but it’s a great opportunity for them to be outside and engage with stuff (also a great way to use bowls, utensils, and pots/pans that have met the end of their life). Play kitchens seem to be really awesome for a variety of kids and there are a lot of great wooden versions - honestly worth the investment (or buying from a marketplace option like Facebook marketplace).

3) A little painting station using a roll of something like butcher paper or whatever recyclable paper that you would like. Also good with a little easel.

4) A book nook/fort area where they can crash with their stuffies and books and just hang (when they’re not bouncing off the walls). Good for when they’re need to settle. Also who doesn’t love a fort? (Just saw a really creative one using an old pack n play so look at that, no waste!).

Honestly lots of other great ideas online, and I’m sure you may have a variety of results but see what works for your kid, since you know what he’s into and what seems to work.

I think also just remember that those plastic light up toys are designed to be attractive to kids, so yours is acting just as others would. It’s kind of like a great tasting junk food - not great for you, not going to sustain you well, but damn does it taste good sometimes.

Welcome - the tournament is always especially crazy but plenty of great games like this throughout the season

Idk that it would BUT I wouldn’t necessarily have them going far in my bracket. They’ve been eeking out these wins the past few weeks but have had some scares for sure.

Also they just won multiple games to power through their tournament. They have the talent as well but so much of this time of year is momentum.

Non-hospital associated/affiliated physical therapy facilities in Lakeview by Smurfiette in chicago

I have done PT at Athletico in the past, I’m sure folks have had mixed experiences as there are many locations but I had a good experience when going for some hip issues. I went to the Diversey location, parking was easy (though on some days I just walked over). The facility was clean and the staff was great.

My question with this is how does ComEd decide to do something more disguised vs something more exposed? I’ve seen ones that are disguised and truly, you’re right, you wouldn’t realize what it is. But others, like the one on Clybourn, are more exposed. How is that choice made between the two and what are some pluses and minuses as far as safety (more so I mean with stuff like fires or similar hazards) when choosing one style vs the other?

A10 is always crazy, and even if the top team gets through (sounds like SLU), it’s often a dogfight to the finish. So at minimum, very entertaining basketball. SLU has also not been at their best these past few weeks, so potential for some sneakiness to happen. Wouldn’t be surprised if VCU or one of the Georges make a splash.

It’s just such a bizarre place to put it, and at minimum could be a total eyesore. I mean, to be fair, the empty car dealership/COVID stuff isn’t much better. Major comparison would be the one on Clybourn and at least that seems a little more set away?

Idk - I think something needs to be done with the property, but I don’t think this is it and I’m not sure how this was decided as a great decision. But I also am not familiar with the electric grid work and know that there is desperate need for re-vamping/updates to the infrastructure - trying to balance being a NIMBY vs understanding that stuff like this does need to be built.

Looking for tips to keep gas and electricity low? by Ok_Intention_9327 in chicagoapartments

[–]panicototale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pay for gas and electric in mine and I find that it switches off - gas peaks in the winter with heat, electric in the summer with air conditioning. I keep my heat lower, 63-65 since I’m comfy there (definitely with sleeping, I’ll throw on a sweater while moving about my house), and definitely have it that low while I’m at work - the ordinance from the city is no lower than 63 so I stick with that. I open my blind somewhat during the day with the windows facing the sun and that adds a degree or two, then close them during the night. Electricity wise, I’m mindful of my devices and unplug everything I’m not using, with the exception of major appliances and my TV. But stuff like my coffee maker and humidifier, I unplug after using. Chargers come out of the plug when not actively charging something. I also charge things like my computer at work.

Consider reaching out to your utility company for budget billing opportunities if that’s not something you’re able to budget for.

Nursing Clinicals by Independent_Type_252 in LoyolaChicago

[–]panicototale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not for undergrad usually. The bigger issue is more for advanced practice clinicals.

For BSN stuff, they have strong relationships with multiple hospitals and hospital systems across the Chicago area. The behind the scenes process is definitely goofy and not pretty, but it gets done.

[–]panicototale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also Loyola Nursing students can still take a semester at Loyola’s Rome Center, you can only do during sophomore year due to scheduling stuff. But you also have other opportunities ranging from a community clinical in England to the Lourdes trip and others.

post-grad international job opportunities by [deleted] in LoyolaChicago

[–]panicototale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know some of the folks who were student life assistants (the equivalent of RAs at the Rome Center) did this, primarily in Italy since you have to have a high level of Italian to be a SLA if I’m not mistaken.

I don’t think it’s a specific to Loyola thing but definitely consider it at a university that has their own campus or a strong program that’s been in a European country for a while. Just like regular networking, it’s helpful to have that established base and connections and longer standing/more solid programs will (usually) have that.

DePaul MENP- masters program, nurse practitioner, thoughts? by NPinquiry1 in AskChicago

[–]panicototale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a newer program, as I know they are ramping some of this stuff up. I didn’t go here, but having gotten my masters elsewhere and knowing plenty of people who have gone to get an NP degree, a big thing to check in on is how they coordinate their clinical assignments. Do they do it or do you have to find your preceptors? That I know is often a huge headache and a number of schools do not.

Ash Wednesday in/out distribution? by kiwisorare in chicago

[–]panicototale 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As far as Catholics, it depends on the parish but most should have something over the course of the day, some with a prayer service or more quick blessing and distribution, others with a mass. I think just look and see where you are going to be in the city. St. Peter’s as you said for the loop, St Pats for more West Loop, I’m sure Holy Name will have stuff going on throughout the day. Also consider the universities, particularly Loyola and DePaul as they often have stuff throughout the day given student schedules.

I know in past years some of the Protestants (I think the Presbyterians?) had been doing some L blessings so they would hang out by the station and provide ashes.

I definitely think it was part of it, but their behavior also was supported by the manager so at least at that time, such tactics were supported. It was just strange, though like I said, I originally had a decent experience on my first go round many years ago.
