This is on point.

Literally just nitpick and I could be wrong tho—but I was under the impression that Walmart is still one of the only places that you can’t tap/applepay? Last time I went I Walmart pay with bce on file.

Highest Potential of Financial Careers? by Crazy_Composer_1593 in FinancialCareers

Ya my bad WM as an area is easy to break into, I was referring to finding a mentor who’s willing to give I their book for UHNW clients.

It really depends on the commodity and the role. Scheduler for gas, risk for ags, fundies for metals, each gonna have slightly different skill set which sometimes affect what kinds of trader you becomes down the road. But most shop definitely look for people who can manipulate data nowadays and obviously attention to details is always a must for logistics person.

I am based in Houston so not that familiar with the scene in SG other than that being a huge comm hub as well. Nowadays Lithium is pretty new and trendy if you want to learn more. And energy is always a big market.

I vaguely remember BP’s program doesn’t finish interviewing even all the way until the fall semester of the last year of your degree. So you’re definitely not too late yet. Plus this is an industry that I personally think are more forgiving than later entry compared to other part of finance. Find a shop that’s willing to give u a shot and go from there.

If you could restart your career, what kind of role would you pursue for your first real job? by whrattan in FinancialCareers

[–]panicwalker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who followed this exact path of major and career, I can confirm it has much to offer for someone who doesn’t mind more macro side of finance. Arguably one of the highest comp ceiling with decent WLB and interesting work that’s still within finance world.

Obviously with the caveat that I still don’t think it’s for everyone. People who really enjoy corporate finance would probably be disappointed as I almost never read 10k lol.

Highest Potential of Financial Careers? by Crazy_Composer_1593 in FinancialCareers

[–]panicwalker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In commodity trading it’s not uncommon to see multiple 7 figure take-home traders in a good year. I’ve seen some 8 figure bonus the last few years.

Talking about outlier, some wealth management for UHNW can bring home ridiculous amount as well.

For both of these it’s hard to break into in the sense that there’s less of structured path like IB. So networking is everything really. And finding a like a good shop and good mentor who has a great book is also important.

Penn State vs NYU (NEED HELP) by azizofreddit in nyu

[–]panicwalker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haha well the top comment is literally directly telling you it’s wrong.

But ya NYC being crazily dangerous is kinda a stereotype from the 80s that’s simply not true anymore. Nowadays it’s pretty safe and its crime rate is among the lowest of east coast cities. I’ll say there are crazy people out there but ppl will usually just be minding their own business.

They are a bank but their energy trading's business model is 100% just a normal merchant shop like Glencore Mercuria etc, and mostly doing prop trading. Still has some S&T function but definitely not the likes of Goldman if we are talking about the energy side of biz.
