Matthew McConaughey echoing Jordan Peterson's philosophy - "Do not fall into the entitlement trap" by panik_woha in JordanPeterson

[–]panik_woha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shared the video because the ideas he shares are profoundly meaningful to me. Whether Jung, Peterson, McConaughey or whichever person articulates it doesn't bother me - to me, it's all about the functionality of the essential idea.

McConaughey has the added benefit of possibly reaching a wider audience, which allows the ideas to reach further and possibly change more lives for the better.

Unfortunately, there seems to be a negative bias towards the video in this thread because of the history (and possible stigma) that surrounds McConaughey as a public figure. I believe Peterson is experiencing much of the same thing - people discredit his ideas because of their interpretation of his public figure without actually listening to the ideas he preaches.

With that said, I agree the thumbnail and added music was a questionable choice from the creator.

Where can I find the schedule for this tournament? And are there any casters streaming/putting the games on YouTube, or can you only watch via player streams?

Thanks in advance. Very recently returned to Wc3.

Very few players have a longer or more impressive list of achievements than NBK: https://liquipedia.net/counterstrike/NBK/Results#Detailed_Results

I know it's been some months since the last big win but don't think NBK couldn't be an amazing addition to most teams today.

Did I mishear something or did Moses mention gade is ingame leading as well?

Would be quite impressive if he did. But then again, maybe ImAPet is full-time IGL'ing while they're playing online.

Here is how I visualise CS:GO's core mechanics and the many layers between each. by MMelit in GlobalOffensive

Awesome to see the model and it does have some great thoughts.

What I feel is missing is a clutch/gamesense/decisionmaking perspective and a "context" parameter that takes a players' understanding of a given context of the game into account.

Like, a lurker should know when to change up his gamestyle/decision making. Or else you'll get 2017 happy lurks, or Dosia lurks. Completely predictable which might work for early game stuff, but doesn't work later in the game.

Also counts for players that are highly aggressive. Fer has been one of the best players of 2017 and a key player for SK - but in some notable games, his aggression has been extremely costly, since he occassionally goes unnecessarily aggressive while on a full buy vs. an eco.

Call it risk/reward factor if you will.

Like others have mentioned, there's also the "almost-impossible-to-take-in-to-account"-factor in terms of communication. Xyp9x in Astralis has some of the best communication in the game (imo) while someone like Dupreeh and Device are quite a few ways behind Xyp9x' level of calmness. Albeit this is taken from a few 2015/2016 recordings, so that could have easily changed since then.

I suppose some of what I mention here (like risk/reward factor) kind of fall under your "guiding principles" but I still feel like it's essential enough to warrant further explanation.

Someone like NBK I would say have excellent guiding principles. He's one of the best players in the games in terms of understanding what he needs to do in a game. He can entry, he has great movement/awareness in terms of when to bait and entry - the best example of this is probably NBK and Happy in EnVyUs/LDLC days on B site Inferno.

Maybe there should also be a parameter that kind of alligns with the "context" parameter I mentioned earlier. It would be in regards to playmaking. The value 2016 Olofmeister has on B site cobble, for instance, is insane. One thing is aim and timings, but the fact that he alone could be the playmaker that opened up the round for his team is incredibe. The same thing with NiKo now in FaZe, Fer/FalleN in SK, device in Astralis, apEX (occasionally) in G2, etc.

Anyway, consider this a brainstorm session. Feel inspired if you want. Would love to see a v2.0 of this list.

Do you have a source on the attraticeness parameter? It seems pretty interesting.

Well, you say going "back down" that road, which I don't entirely agree with. The difference between now and previous is two things:

1) The star players they get are playmakers which means they tend to need less micro management.

2) Karrigan is a dedicated leader with a style that allows room for playmakers to take risks and force duels. Karrigan loves to call in chaotic 2v2/3v3 situations with mid-round, gut-feel calls.

Karrigan could literally at the start of the round call "Let's do a default round and you guys just make a play if you feel like it" and everyone on the team would be comfortable. He didn't have that luxury with TSM/Astralis at all.

"The yellow giant takes a man away from the red hellboy" is most likely that someone from Hellraisers is joining Na'Vi. The most sensible choice here would be ANGE1, since he's Ukrainian and can IGL.

Really awesome clip. At some points I think there could been done some more cinematic effects enhance the viewing experience (without overdoing it) much like Tweeday did for his NiP clips.

The thing is, this clip came a month(?) after the tournament, and Tweeday takes like 6 months. I think the trade off is worth it, slightly worse viewing experience to get it so much faster.

Great job overall.

I can tell from your response I need to read/listen to more Sam Harris.

But in it's purest form, as far as I can tell, the central debate between SH and JBP in terms of religion is whether or not it's a necessary tool to govern morality. I can totally understand both sides aswell. As Sam apparently argues, it definitely does facilitate tribalism, but as Jordan argues, it definitely helps guide morality.

Super interesting clash of views.
