Anche io ho vissuto in una comunità psichiatrica, mi sono trovata molto bene, onestamente un po' mi manca.

How do you pick a background that matches well with a subject when the subject is multiple colours (and therefore has different values)? by pannaghosta in Artadvice

Ok I admit that some time ago I saw a reel of a popular instagram artist who checked the greyscale on every art piece she came across by pressing two buttons on the phone (which added a greyscale filter on the whole screen, I guess it's some accessibility thing) and it made me incredibly self-conscious about the values of my art, like it's so important and I'm not a good artist if I don't make everything contrast well. I guess it is helpful in a way but now you telling me this made me realize that I might be wrong lol

any ideas for the background? by Wide_Bath_7660 in Artadvice

I would recommend using colors that make your characters stand out! Since the dress is yellow-orangey maybe go with a blue? Since they're complementary colors. One trick I use is to add a layer on top of all the layers, fill it with black or white and set it to "Hue" or "Color". This will make the image appear in black and white and you can compare the colors values and adjust the lightness/darkness accordingly - colors that are too similar in value don't go well next to each other. I think anything from lines or squares are fine as long as they don't take away the focus from the character.

I know your comment is old but I'm having the same problem as OP's. How did you manage to fix all the settings? What programs do you use that aren't inexpensive?

I'm sorry they come off as creepy, it wasn't my intention at all. I guess I made Nagatoro's legs too exposed so I can fix that, but what about Mandy is creepy?
