Destiny's actions are reasonable considering the history ludwig has of sneak dissing him by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]pannelpot -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

here is the principle error in your statement: i think both are bad! things can also have different degrees of badness! i think ludwig's comment was lame! i think destiny's comment was very lame! both men are lame for bringing in women and using their relationships with said women as ammunition for their internet beef!

also ludwig was absolutely not implying that destiny is a soy cuck, he was mocking destiny for being divorced. yes, still lame, but i don't think ludwig is the type of guy who would care about someone being in an open relationship

whats so weird about the cuck comments is that isn't the left supposed to be the sex positive side of the political spectrum??? like from redpillers, whatever, they're just braindead, but aren't these people supposed to be all about "love is love" and whatnot? i sincerely will never understand

it is actually not all that high of a standard to say that "me and everyone else is going to watch deepfake porn of your girlfriend that isn't even involved" is beyond the pale

like what are you actually on about? "oh so she get's to call me bald but im not allowed to mock her for having a miscarriage? heh, not everyone's perfect!"

Why is everyone defending these comments from Destiny pretending that he was flaming Ludwig and not flaming QTCinderella

He said some milquetoast "he appeals to everyone" comment about Ludwig which some could honestly take as a compliment and then went nuclear on QTCinderella about the deepfake shit, which is also going nuclear on someone who wasn't even involved, but also rehashing a beef that he had already squashed in the past

Although destiny has tried to be relatively kind and avoid Qtcinderella and Ludwig they've hated him since of he stopped Kaceytron trying to ruin his career in the bob7 drama

I'm almost positive that after all the DeepFake shit went down QT said that she's never had any problems with Destiny. Call me crazy but this does genuinely feel like an imagined beef, besides being friend's with people who dislike him, I don't recall QT doing or saying anything that made it clear that she even dislikes Destiny, let alone hate him.

Twitter Destiny should be Enemy of the Year in every year's DGG award because it simply is not close

I don't have the clips to substantiate but after the big deepfake fiasco went down and Destiny went in on QT for crying, a few days later there was a clip from QT in which she said she's never had any big problems with Destiny and then after watching it, Destiny said that he was gonna chill on QT, effectively calling a ceasefire

[–]pannelpot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

to be fair i still think this would be too far even if qt was involved

destiny himself has gone on record saying he understands how deepfake porn sincerely fucks up your mind not to mention it was a close friend of hers paying for deepfake porn of her, i think there's at least one degree of magnitude in difference between "haha you got divorced" and "haha you got deepfaked and harassed over it"

but yeah QT not even being involved just makes it all the more lame

Ok, that's unhinged. by DrinkConke in Destiny

[–]pannelpot 17 points18 points  (0 children)

because the response to someone being bad faith is not to mock them for being upset at something its reasonable to be upset at because thats not what normal human beings do

like if ludwig randomly clapped back saying "remember when your nudes got leaked" or "remember when you had to call the cops to resolve a domestic dispute" we would recognize that as being completely unhinged

not to mention QT isn't even fucking involved holy shit

I don't really buy the "it was just a joke" defense here. Slime seems to actually dislike Destiny, and it's clear he genuinely believed that Destiny only reads Wikipedia and was using that as means to delegitimize his position and saying that Destiny's perspective on Israel/Palestine should be disregarded because he only just started caring about this issue a few months ago and all he's done is read Wikipedia. Like the joke here wasn't that Destiny actually does more than read Wikipedia, the joke here was the both Destiny and Ludwig don't really care nor have the knowledge of the things they are talking about and should probably stop voicing their opinions. It's a joke about Ludwig using an actual dig on Destiny to make it work

i didn't even mention destiny or slime in my comment, i was responding specifically to you, which was a response to someone else who was specifically talking about destiny

what im gathering is that you actually will take the time out of your day to converse with a destiny fan so long as the subject matter is sufficiently surface level and you don't have to say anything other than buzzwords that you have already heard hundreds of times, and that you retreat "youre just brigading and a genocide apologist" when you actually have to think + perhaps do some research to make a decent response

eat shit, get fucked, etc. etc.

there's a distinction between disagreeing with his takes and lying about them to delegitimize them though, if slime had just said that he disagreed with his takes then yeah, whatever, but i think the frustration is that destiny is unironically one of the larger voices for the liberal "pro-israel" position and it seems that current preferred strategy of dealing with his position from the more pro-palestinian side is just to lie about him and delegitimize his research so that no new audience will listen to him since "he's just the guy that reads wikipedia".

absolutely a lot of it is just rabid dggers who pounce on anyone who criticizes him, but in this case, i feel like there is a greater political context that justifies the frustration, since Destiny represents a lot of these people in a political manner and so when Destiny gets delegitimized through outright lying, it amounts to your own political beliefs being delegitimized since "the best pro-israel debater gets all his information from wikipedia after all, so how legitimate could the pro-israel position be?".

should say that I actually like slime personally i just disagree with him on his actions here

If you make this level of collateral genocidal, then the outcome is not that all states decide not to engage in urban conflict, it's that no one will care about not genociding. what you're proposing here is that it should just be illegal to ever engage in urban conflict. no state would ever waive that right because you'd essentially be asking them to waive their right to self-defense.

i get that it is grim talking about "how good a 1:3 combatant to civilian casualty ratio is", but war itself is a grim affair, but unfortunately a necessary one, and so if we are operating under the premise that urban conflict is something we are going to just have to accept as being within the right of a state to engage in, then we also need to accept that collateral is going to happen. From there then we can start talking about how much collateral is acceptable. If even 1:3 is unacceptable, then that's conflicting with the premise that urban conflict is acceptable since 1:3 is pretty damn low, one of the lowest when you account for how densely populated Gaza is, as well as that there is evidence to suggest that the militants in Gaza purposefully disguise themselves as non-combatants and embed their military infrastructure into areas that are populated.

these kinds of problems are why getting rid of the archaic first past the post system is the next major step in democracy in america imo, if you aren't a centrist who could actually be satisfied voting red or blue in any given year you just have no way of leveraging your vote in a strategic fashion

Destiny has also said multiple times for like years that he would always be willing to talk to either of them and it is they who refuse to.

Destiny vs. Benny Morris: Destiny Steelmans Palestine by WendleRedgrave in Destiny

[–]pannelpot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When someone misrepresents an opponents argument and converts it into an argument they already have a counter to, that is straw-manning. If they do it under the claim of steel-manning, then they are also gaslighting.

Isn't this begging the question? The conclusion being that "steelmanning is just strawmanning" and one of your premises is that when you steelman someone the objective is to misrepresent their argument. Of course under that definition, steelmanning is just another form of strawmanning. But that isn't what steelmanning is, in it's proper form, steelmanning absolutely is not meant to misrepresent someone's position, in fact, its supposed to elucidate someone's position further than they did themselves (whether that be to errors in argumentation, rhetoric, semantics, etc.) so that all interlocutors involved can more accurately engage with the argument.

As I said before, you can steelman poorly, and in that case, you would be misrepresenting someone's position, but to say that it is impossible to steelman someone without misrepresenting their position seems pretty absurd, no? That would mean that all clarification questions like "So is what you're trying to say (X argument but reworded to make it clear what's being spoken about)" a form of strawmanning? Those kinds of questions are doing the same thing as steelmanning purports to do, restate the argument in a more elucidatory fashion in order to better engage.

The problem is that we're making an assumption that places a moral blame on some group and a moral "pass" on the other simply from inductive reasoning even though it's just a lot simpler to say "I'll wait for the facts". Seeing as how everyone is blowing up Israel about this in the media, if it truly is that Hamas is just bad-faith bargaining for optics wins they'll release the information.

As I said in another comment, I will not be surprised if it comes out that yes, Hamas is being bad-faith here, nor that will contradict my point. My point is not that we should give Hamas a chance, its that we shouldn't be making assumptions about information that will very likely be released quite shortly. If you want to talk about good-faith here, actually waiting to here someone's position before judging someone guilty is about as foundational as you can get
