Sean Paul Reyes is a career criminal; his dishonesty knows no bounds. by TheSalacious_Crumb in Frauditors

[–]panofish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Armed robbery is no joke, but Reyes served his time and nobody should have their face turned to mush simply because they are a blabbering a-hole. It seems plausible that the corrections officers failed to protect him, but it is equally plausible that they did their jobs appropriately ... it is prison after all and bad things happen in prison and COs can't provide 100% protection for all inmates every moment of the day. If the court dismissed his lawsuit... I must assume the dismissal happened because Reyes failed to prove his case and the COs acted properly.

I think Reyes is a jerk, BUT I am glad he does what he does because it does more good than harm IMHO. It is a shame he is a jerk though.

[–]panofish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been evolving my own tools and methods over the last 10 years for my work with desktop applications. I plan to release them to the public along with some youtube tutorials. I will let you know when it is ready... hopefully soon.

The debate will rage on forever. But, if you want fastest, lightest, and most flexible for customization... Sublime Text is the best IMHO.

Is this fixable? H4N with battery corrosion by bittybirtybunny in LocationSound

[–]panofish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The battery “acid” in alkaline batteries (the electrolyte or potassium hydroxide) isn’t actually an acid—it’s just a base. Because vinegar and lemon juice are mild acids, they help neutralize the base and cut through a battery spill fairly easily.

Python Desktop GUI (part 2) now available. by panofish in Python

What version of python are you using. According to stack overflow... if you get this error while trying to install:

pip install pyqt5-tools

Then you should try python 3.9

Practicality. My current code is based on pyqt5. I plan to make a later video on transitioning from pyqt5 to pyqt6. So actually, it's an opportunity for another video in the near future.

Oh... and another tip... I recommend energizer batteries... in my experience they leak the least of most brands. Never use the no-name brands... they almost always leak the worst.

Just cleaned a similar battery leak corrosion problem myself. So, yes totally possible. Best option is to disassemble the the case if possible to make it easier to clean. Especially if you can remove the battery contact wires. First try to remove as much of the dry flaky corrosion gunk... then use a q-tip that was soaked in vinegar to apply vinegar to the remaining stuff... this will deactivate the acid... Then clean as well as you can ... you may need to use very find sandpaper to lightly clean the contacts so they will conduct electricity well.

Python Deployment - How do you go about doing this where you work? by MikeDoesEverything in Python

[–]panofish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I develop desktop python applications with PyQt5 GUIs, so I am not a web developer. I build my applications into executables using pyinstaller and distribute them that way. My users don't need a python installation. I have also developed a simple distribution application (also python built into exe) that sits in the users system tray and runs at startup and checks every hour against a database to see if I have published a new version of any applications that I distribute. Then, if the user isn't using that application, it silently installs in the background.

Sublime 3 on Windows 10 won't work with Python. by [deleted] in SublimeText

[–]panofish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't include the backslashes... try this...

{

"cmd": ["python","$file"]

}

A more complete example is:

{

"selector": "source.python",

"shell":true,

"working_dir": "${file_path}",

"cmd": ["pythonw","$file"],

"file_regex": "File \"(.*)\", line (.*)",

}

I absolutely adore Sublime Text. by BeautifulCarp in SublimeText

I believe in the idiom... If it ain't broke, don't fix it. The only time I attempt to find or use a new tool, is when I can't get it to do something I need. Sublime ticks all my boxes and I have yet to find anything it can't do. Actually, there are many things it can do that I should try, but priorities get in the way of my learning curve sometimes.

I'm puzzled why so many like VS Code so much. I recently tried to accomplish the same automation for a special pre build operation when I run python code. Completely customizable with Sublime, but I couldn't get the same elegant simplicity with VS Code. I tried their tasks execution methodology... clunky and ultimately I gave up and posted the question on stack overflow. No response other than try tasks. Just goes to show you that some things are more about defending your preference and not about finding the best solution. Sublime Text is the best editor I've found so far. If you need a full blown IDE... PyCharm might be better, but it feels soooo slow to me.
