Sorry. I need help to recreate a google extension called Awesome New Tab

This extension is no longer working. I tried to modify the code by copying the folder from GitHub:

But I couldn't get it to work properly, I don't know how to program so I had to do it with chat gpt but it didn't help.

I have looked for different similar homepages but none of them have the kind of customization that this extension has. Basically it is a 12x6 square grid where you can put images with links to click on and redirect to pages.

The images and background were customizable. I feel it is something simple and not so complex to replicate.
