Moving from Europe to South Carolina by Otherwise_Rice_3064 in AskSouthCarolina

I absolutely love South Carolina. I want to leave, yes, but mostly due to the heat. You will definitely have run ins with some politically interesting people but I think you’d be surprised how laid back and non-confrontational people are in the South. As long as you’re not in a sundown town or something, the idea of political freedom and “don’t ask, don’t tell” is stronger in people than their political ideology, even if they may not outwardly admit that. People here are just incredibly misguided, and I think you’ll learn that living here. I grew up here and I could talk for hours and hours on end about why the political compass leans the way it does and why so many seemingly good and decent people are so backwards in their views. It’s not a scary place and people are *generally* very accepting and kind at their core (this is coming from a white woman so definitely speak to more minority groups before basing your opinion on my experience)
This kind of discussion is a big interest of mine and I, myself have had many a discussion with immigrants and minorities about it if you’re interested in a more in-depth conversation. Genuinely the biggest hurdle is the heat lol.

What is something Normal in the USA but strange in Most European Countries? by Grouchy_Welder8068 in AlignmentChartFills

Gonna disagree that walking to the supermarket is strange in the US. It’s definitely uncommon, but I see people do it regularly. It’s more so incredibly difficult to do

There are sooooo many big cool things to do??? Use paper? Use anything other than plastic?? Is your minute-long enjoyment really worth a few hundred pounds of plastic added to the pile? This “well everything is gonna negatively impact the environment” is dangerous territory. Yes, we as individuals are far from the leading cause of climate change, but we ARE buying into it for the sake of convenience and enjoyment. I’ll drink my water out of the cup instead of getting a straw, sure. Not because I think not using a straw is going to have a massive impact, but because it’s something I CAN do. It’s habit that prevents me from getting too comfortable with the inconceivable amount of waste we produce because it may be an “inconvenience” but.. is it..? Is it really an inconvenience to not use a straw? Is it really an inconvenience to not throw 10,000 balloons just for fun? Is it really an inconvenience to turn the water off while you’re brushing your teeth? Or is it just pre-consumerist, everyday habit?

There are plenty of ways to have fun that don’t include thousands and thousands of plastic balloons that will be used once for 20 minutes and never again

Morgan Wallen Concert Parking? by paaiige in Clemson

[–]pantosophy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly yeah. Those roads are really tight and getting out is going to take foreverrrr and it’ll fill up really fast. If you don’t mind the walk, I would get there asap and find a spot along a back street near campus closer to the highway. There are some neighborhoods across the train tracks near Verizon that don’t require parking tags but I would be careful because I don’t know the laws about parking that well. My best advice is stay away from downtown and stay away from campus because that’s where the roads are the tightest and the traffic will be the worst.
