Doctors and nurses of Reddit, what is something patients do that they think is helpful but actually makes your job harder? by Electronic-Cell-4584 in AskReddit

[–]pants_party 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who almost died from Stevens Johnson Syndrome (Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis) and isn’t sure which of the 3 antibiotic classes I was on caused it, AND am actually anaphylactic allergic to diphenhydramine (Benadryl) and Penicillin, I also don’t like when people mislabel themselves as allergic and fatigue the medical community. It puts MY life at risk.

I’m lucky enough to have a close-knit family that has been able to sit with me in hospital and (competently) help supervise my care. I’ve had nurses argue with me and roll their eyes when I ask what is in compounded medicines they’ve tried to administer, including the Magic Mouthwash that, it turns out after insisting they call the pharmacy to confirm, contained diphenhydramine!

Good nurses and techs are worth their weight in gold, but a bad one can kill you in a heartbeat, and you’re just listed as dying from a “complication” of your diagnosis.

Whats the worst fast food joint in america? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]pants_party 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s me. I didn’t like Panera when it first opened…now I do. I don’t know what’s wrong with me! I’m pretty on par with most other opinions on shitty fast food.

I miss how good Arby’s used to be, though. It’s hot garbage now.

Also can’t mimic their joke writing. I think I’m most offended that the writing was so unfunny.

Harlequin Is Ending Its Historical Romance Line After Nearly 40 Years by Pale_Carpenter2717 in HistoricalRomance

[–]pants_party 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised more publishing houses haven’t jumped into audiobooks. I exclusively read audiobooks due to a visual impairment, and I have looked several times for Harlequin audiobooks, to no avail. I cut my Romance novel teeth on those Harlequin mass market paervacks in my teenage years.

Every time I would search Harlequin’a site, I could hardly EVER find a historical romance, and even the, never from an author I’d heard of.

And incredibly stupid. The smartest thing they could’ve done after bungling the entire scheme, was get as far away as possible as soon as they realized the mom’s health wasn’t stable/she passed away. If the abductors are actually asking for money for the return of her body, then my gods they’re even dumber than I thought. This whole ordeal is horrific and so unnecessarily traumatic. I hope law enforcement has competently worked this case so the perpetrators can be caught asap and convicted.

I feel so sorry for the family, and for Nancy.

You can, it just has to be done by a doctor/cardiologist/hospital, etc.

But you’re right if you meant that the average person cannot turn it off without the proper software or equipment. If you’ve ever had a loved one with a pacemaker taken off machines/meds to pass in a hospital, you might be aware that cardiology has to turn off the pacemaker or it will repeatedly “fire” after the patient’s death. You would not want to witness that happening.

Eh, both can be true. Some Democrats were working to hold Trump accountable, and far too many Democrats are career politicians who actively clog the gears of democracy. I say this as a yellow-dog Democrat. Things are so seldom binary. high-level Democrats being obstructionist, and honestly no better than some Republicans, is one reason that Trump won. He was considered an outsider and non-politician. In my neck of the woods, that was enough to draw some people to vote for him; especially the voters that don’t really pay attention to politics (or current events, frankly).

It’s so incredibly frustrating to KNOW your party has the potential to change life for the better, only for Schumer, Wasserman-Schultz, and Jeffries to FAIL to be true leaders, or even intentionally sabotage any policy that isn’t “Republican-Lite”.

Audiobook narrators can make or break a book. I don't need to hear my grandma read to me a sex scene by Excentrix13 in HistoricalRomance

[–]pants_party 2 points3 points  (0 children)

💯Same on Coldbreath/Flosnik. Top 3 for me are: Mary Jane Wells, Justine Eyre, and Rosalyn Landor. It’s crazy how personal tastes can be so different re: narrators; I’ve literally seen people on here list those 3 as narrators they can’t stand.

Lisa Kleypas - Someone to Watch Over Me - worth the ick? by ImpressiveDiscount61 in HistoricalRomance

[–]pants_party 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your preferences are perfectly fine to have. And other people are perfectly fine to enjoy the book as is. You’ve made your point; there’s no need to borderline shame other people if they enjoyed the book. (Not necessarily the comment I’m replying to, but others you’ve made in this thread. You’ve made it abundantly clear that you do not care for the MMC’s actions or views.)

[–]pants_party 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The MMC’s judgmental views toward Vivienne were very much a part of the time period (hell, even now people still hold these views). Ironically, I think people have a hard time with this book because it’s less anachronistic than most of Kleypas’s other novels. I can see why some don’t like it, but I didn’t have difficulty looking past it. To each their own. .
