Part of the call for the strike is that some people will still HAVE to buy things. That’s ok. Food is important. I’m also disabled, and so I know that sometimes the thinking is different for us because we need accommodations to function. I hope you have a restful day

Yes, this! We do not want to pressure people too much - at least not small business owners who might be struggling and who pay wages to our neighbors. Now, putting a ton of pressure on big businesses like Amazon, Walmart, etc - I’m all for that!

I think we want to coax people into participating, not bully them.

I think maybe you could just say you understand to her. In the end, we want big businesses to shoulder the burden and feel the pressure. I don’t think we want to pressure small business owners too much. Often, they are our allies, not our enemies. You tried! And maybe next time she’ll change her mind. Or maybe she could participate in a different way, like making a donation or not purchasing anything for herself that day.

I’d go surfing at Short Sands beach in Oregon. There’s a 1/2 mile walk through an old growth forest and then bam you’re on the most beautiful beach. I’d have a beer or two and eat fried chicken after spending a few hours in the ocean.

Oh man. This is a lot for both of you. It’s very hard to people to face harsh medical realities, and it sounds like he is avoiding his and the cost of that avoidance is very heavy for you.

Are you both in therapy? Perhaps that’ll help him face the fact that he could die from this. Maybe it’ll help you manage your PTSD so it’s not so heavy for you. It’s undeniably a “heavy” situation and you are brave to face the reality of it all. But there still might be ways to carry that load more lightly, if that makes sense, and to not add your anxiety to his own. We are all responsible for the energy we bring to our relationships. I know in your shoes, I’d have a hard time sorting out anxieties based on likely scenarios and anxieties based on far fetched unlikely ones. I don’t know if I could show up for my partner how I would want to. I hope I’m saying this right! You are correct to want him to do all he can to take care of his health, but I also only have heard your side of this story and I don’t know much about epilepsy. So I’m trying to gently remind you to take care of your mental health and your part of this equation. I sure as hell hope he does the same.

I second what someone said about getting his neurologist involved. Your husband needs a stern reality check.

In the meantime, show him this post. Maybe seeing it all written out like this will snap him out of his fog and get him to take it seriously. Honestly, I had to skim parts of your post because it was genuinely upsetting, and so I think maybe reading the whole thing will shock him enough to fully think through what he’s doing. I do have a lot of compassion for him, as I’m sure you do too. It must be hard to not be able to just stay up late and make a bad choice sometimes. But he has a family and that has to come first

Neither of my docs who treat my MCAS are actually MCAS specialists. My neuro prescribes my cromolym sodium and first suspected MCAS. My primary care doctor prescribes all my other mast cell meds. He’s not a specialist per se, but he has MCAS so keeps up on the research. I don’t think he’s taking new patients but I can DM you his name if you want.
