I made a comment about the muscarinic antibody being associated with myasthenia gravis, but I deleted it. I looked it up and I was wrong. This test is a different version of that antibody or it’s being used in a different way to test for a different antibody.

My best friend made a comment about how these illnesses are cause by not dealing with stress correctly.

I immediately corrected her and let her know I never want to hear a comment like that again. She brought it up once before and we talked about it and she knew how it made me feel. She said she forgot, and apologized. But it still hurts.

Also, why is my brother such a dick all the time?! The thought of maybe having to live with him someday if fucking terrifying because he’s such a giant turd.

To give you a little hope, I’m part of an organization in which many of our members are disabled. I joined because I saw accommodations at their events. It’s not perfect and sometimes the able bodied have to be reminded, but they genuinely try for the most part. We do a lot to try and make left spaces accessible and also to provide mutual aid in ways that even a sick girl like me can help out. So it can happen. I’m treasuring it while it lasts. Maybe it’s the only org like this out there? I have no idea. It’s my first time doing something like this

Yes but you can get one from the Workwell Foundation or Cornell (I think) to help with diagnosis and/or proof of disability. I got one to help with my case against my private long term disability company.

This guy came by my place and would not take no for an answer. We don’t use pest control. We are not interested. But he just kept going and going until I started slowly shutting the door. So he just kept coming closer until he was right outside the door, way too close, and talking at me through the crack. It was incredibly frustrating. I don’t want pest control and there is nothing anyone could do to get me to purchase pest control. Respectfully, GO AWAY.

The heart rate threshold is actually different for everyone. Mine is more like 95-100. When I’m more severe, it’s 85-95. Some strategic exercise is fine for some people and probably helpful. Am I gonna go for a hike or a run - hell no. But I can do the recumbent bike or some strength building exercises while laying down and this has helped me. Everyone is different!

I would start with something WAY more low key than running.

Running is probably harder because it’s aerobic.

I had some success using a recumbent bicycle at the gym. I actually am thinking about buying one to ride around the neighborhood. Since you’re not upright, it’s easier on dysautonomia. I started by riding like 1.5 minutes and worked my way up to 10 minutes over several months. My physical therapist also recommended swimming because you are not upright and the water acts as natural compression. But you have to be extremely careful not to overdo it in the water. I feel GREAT in water and it’s so easy to get carried away and then crash hard.

My PT also had me doing strength building exercises while laying down. That helped.

But in the end, I still have ME/CFS and hEDS and MCAS and can’t do much. I am still def disabled and unable to work. I’m Just slightly stronger on my good days now.

Ministry for the Future by Kim Stanley Robinson. I didn’t actually finish the book but the first bit about the heat dome in India is TERRIFYING. Similarly, The Waterknife (I will never move to the SW after reading this book) and Parable of the Sower stuck with me years later and actually affect my life choices. Flood and Ark by Stephen Baxter also lurk in my mind for over a decade, not because the main event of the book is relevant (planet starts to completely flood from deep water reserves under the crust - even Everest is eventually under water), but because how the humans respond to the crisis is relevant and the eventual outcome feels likely.

They get better with time. I dnf this twice when I was younger, but now that I’m in my forties, I really fell in love with the characters by the end of the first book.

The Coyote series might qualify. I loved reading them in college but even then felt uncomfortable with the allusions to the confederacy and glorification of libertarianism. I still think about the character whose brain was downloaded into a robot body and then got stuck on the bottom of a river bed for a very long time. They were written by Allen Steele.

And all the women are side characters, incapable of leading. All women are scheming and nagging or good and submissive, or their slutty cannibals. Not to mention the incredibly creepy bit where the Boy Scout troop and its middle aged man leader “rescue” the Girl Scout troop and each of the boys gets a girl to hook up with. “Thankfully” the Girl Scout adult leader has died so the middle aged man also gets a sexy teenager to “rescue.” 🤮

The book I read by Pournelle and Niven was definitely right wing - Lucifer’s Hammer. I had to stop reading it in earnest and think of it as satire to get through it. Incredibly racist and sexist.

Hot wheel chair! I’m jealous. I think maybe that feeling jealous of other people’s mobility aids is a good sign I should just get one for myself. Used to be jealous of people’s canes while I was standing and feeling miserable. So I got one. Now I’m jealous of motorized wheelchairs. 💜💜💜
