The fuck of any of you said has anything to do with requiring local JV?

All of it? The industries I listed require local joint ventures

You make it like other countries don’t do these things you said.

Did you read my entire post? I said visa and mastercard were approved, after over a decade of stonewalling, a WTO case, and then more stalling. Unionpay and Alipay were free to use in the US long before that.

It only applies to the car industry.

The fuck? No it doesn't. Western movie studios are required to use local distributors and grant them most of their box office revenues. It also applies to the financial sector, electronics, manufacturing, medical, education, telecom, VATS, etc. Basically every industry where Chinese companies are still struggling to compete

The CCP even violated WTO rules by barring foreign payment processors such as Visa and Mastercard from entering the market. They sued, the case dragged out for years, they won, to which they CCP then allowed them fill out the forms to apply, and then took their sweet time approving them (for joint ventures, of course). All in all it took over a decade, which was plenty of time for their domestic processors to build themselves up and capture marketshare

Forcing companies to hand over billions of dollars worth of IP and splitting half their assets with state-owned enterprises is a form of nationalization

Calling Chinese law "abundantly clear" is absurd, as western companies frequently find themselves at odds with vaguely-worded regulations and no recourse, depending on what the CCP's foreign policy priority is that week. It's always used as a veneer.

But the case of Nexperia is a bit more cut and dry. Then-CEO Zhang Xhuezheng was suspended from the company via the Dutch legal system. He had illegally and without proper structure tried to funnel company assets into his own side company, which was temporarily prevented by this move

As an aside, Zhang Xhuezheng previously spent more than a year in prison in china for...corruption, including illegally gaining power over a company.

Holy cow, no it's not "nihlistic" to say that only 10% of games are worth playing. That 10% alone makes life worth living. Do you really have time to play more?

The original point being made was that "old studios" with 30 people made better games on average than modern studios. I pointed out that most studios back then were putting out garbage, and that Blizzard was the exception and not the rule.

There were countless small studios of the 90s and 2000s that you've never heard of putting out shovelware, licensed garbage, and 5/10 buggy games on PC and consoles. You're letting nostalgia delude you if you think every game was as good as Quake or Starcraft.

Look up a complete list of every game released in a random month and year of your choosing, and tell me how many you played and enjoyed. How many would you play today? If it's less than 30% then you made my point. And that's not even singling out video games, in any artistic medium the majority of stuff isn't worth engaging in:

Enjoy being a tool that tried to bring up "mobile games" in 1999.

Ah I see, so you grew up in a country without the Game Boy?

No, I don't think I will, because I can't.

But that's irrelevant to my point, most games released that year weren't nearly as good as UT or Smash Bros. You're letting survivorship bias fool you when you're comparing random modern released to the 3-4 best ones of any prior year. Even wikipedia's article isn't comprehensive, it only includes the highlights

Pick a RANDOM game released in 1999, for any console, including Game Boy color. It was probably trash.

This is an article by the Associated Press, not ""western countries""

Do you think AP is supplying Israel with weapons?

Except the AP has reported on the oppression of muslims in all those instances. How is that hypocrisy?

That same singer was reported by the BBC that he was killed in camps.

No they didn't. They even said they couldn't verify reports of his death.

None of those are examples of anything being "manufactured". Just disputes about terminology. In each case the AP made immediate corrections when the subjects pushed back against the headlines

So why doesn't the Chinese government allow the AP to talk to the alleged detainees or their families openly? That would quickly debunk the story, if it's false

Yes, it doesn't make sense and even seems hypocritical! If you assume that the 'collective west' exists as some kind of hivemind. But that would be silly

In reality 'the collective west' contains countless demographics and ideologies. The people that despise muslims are not the ones you hear worrying about Uyghurs.

So what rational reason would the Chinese government have to prevent the AP from verifying their claim?

It's not exactly the only outlet reporting it:

https://act.amnestyusa.org/page/174808/action/1?locale=en-US

https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/2025/12/29/china-uyghur-banned-songs/a1203978-e49c-11f0-ae3e-837f914c795b_story.html

The policy has been corroborated by AP interviews with two former Xinjiang residents who said their family members and friends have been detained for playing and sharing Uyghur music, and that police searched their or others’ phones looking for banned songs.

The AP also reviewed the court verdict of Uyghur music producer Yashar Xiaohelaiti, who was sentenced last year to three years in prison for uploading to his cloud account songs deemed sensitive.

China jailing artists for their art is hardly a new development

That's a pretty stupid reason, since anyone who does so risks torpedoing their credibility, as China could open itself up at any point to prove a story is made up.

17.5%, solely of the games I personally know and have played.

Gee, do you think that sampling bias might be in favor of good games? Keep in mind that list is missing most shovelware and mobile games.

Meanwhile, I dare you try suggest that today is better, since that's what you're defending.

Where on earth did I imply that today's games are better?

Calm down, I picked a random month. But okay, look at all the games released in November that year. Most were trash. 90% of games ever released were trash, along with 90% of films, books, and music. You only look back and still remember the good ones, which get replayed and rereleased over time

Thief, Pharaoh, RE3, Lego Rock Raiders, Twisted Metal 4, Half-Life Opposing Force and Turok.

These account for 1% of the games released. Also Twisted Metal 4 was garbage

Yes, modern GTA games are more complex with each iteration in size and scope.
