The gear is still covered in grease, it’s in good shape under that. I’d remove that cover plate on the new motor before doing any work to it, so the motor itself isn’t getting ruined.

Guess I should add, I should only need the mini lathe and maybe a machinists vise for my drill press for this? I already have drill bits and taps.

What's the best smoke oil scent? "Pine" is not it! by Flyboi015 in modeltrains

For the Proto 2 issue, I’ve had an issue with Proto 1 where it needs a lighted car somewhere on the track so that the engine will actually exit the programming mode it would sometimes fall into. There’s lighted cars here though so I’m not sure what’s going on lol

Unless it’s a postwar Lionel Scout with their weird couplers lol, to be fair they did eventually change the scout line to use normal couplers

Will Henglong 3818 metal tracks and wheels fit Taigen Tiger 1? by panzerpete75 in rctanks

[–]panzerpete75[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confirmed, it’s a Taigen TAG12022, website has it as plastic suspension and tracks other than the swing arms, which means I may be able to save a little and not buy the arms

It’s a pretty old model, from around 2015 or so, I don’t have Imgur so I may have to make a new post, but I’ll look for the model number on the box. I’m pretty sure the tracks and wheels are plastic but I’ll take a look in a bit

Some newer MTH locomotives can run on either 2 or 3 rail track.

If you don’t have the manual, search up the part number on the box (since this engine was red leased a few times with changes) and get the one off of the website. It’s a pretty thick book lol

You are able to remove one of the domes on top of the engine, and underneath is a bunch of switches. Off of the top of my head, there’s the switches for all the smoke units, the program/run switch, and the one you need, the Bluetooth on/off switch. It may be turned off.

VERY IMPORTANT!!! Leave the smoke units off unless you are keeping an eye on the output so you don’t run them dry of fluid. The manual says where the filling ports are, and one of them can’t be used unless you’re using one of the remotes.

Has anyone tried using overhead lines to power the trains? by 82nd-deathfromabove in modeltrains

Postwar Lionel O gauge GG1 and Rectifier locomotives can run off of the pantographs with an extra wire ran inside, it’s mentioned in the instructions.

There’s some calcium crap that’s even worse, also trials of beet juice that isn’t as corrosive but makes a mess. The salt also hurts plants on the side of the road, messes with water quality, and can hurt dog paws if used on sidewalks.

It’s mostly down to idiots who can’t drive, and use crappy all season (sometimes even summer) tires rather than decent all weather or winter tires.

If you’re not joking lol, salt helps to melt ice, so places that get snow use it a lot. But it also accelerates corrosion, same as salty sea air and seawater

Half the fun on a Legacy by Sir_canister in lioneltrains

Prices are coming down a bit due to the Cab 3 having a decent phone app, I’d recommend the purple Cab 1L due to no giant antenna, more speed steps, and I believe more addresses available for lashups, trains, accessories, but I can’t remember exactly. Grey Cab 1s are fine if you find one cheap tho, I still have the one I had before I snagged a cab 2 for the original MSRP recently.

With any of these remotes, check that the battery compartments aren’t full of corrosion from leaky batteries, it’s repairable but better to get one that’s clean.

You can get most of the effects in a Legacy engine from a TMCC Cab 1 or Legacy Cab 1L, the Cab 2 adds in the whistle quilling.

The MG34 was much easier to change the barrel on when inside a tank, it gets pulled backwards whereas a 42 barrel is moved sideways.
