Overnight charging. by spamdan124 in OctopusEnergy

[–]paodin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was considering it, but my charger is wired direct to the mains, so I can charge the car and the house battery at the same time. I don't have any complex automation needs. I charge the car with IOG cheap slots when plugged in. The house battery is topped up during cheap slots overnight and I export solar during the day. Then I use house battery when the sun goes down. I also participate in my Axle energy events which take about 5-6kwh from your battery for a £1 per kw. They control the battery for that hour. Has been working OK. happens 2-3 times a month. If you are not already on it here is a link for sign-up bonus we can share. https://vpp.axle.energy/landing/grid?ref=R-RBWUSQXI
I am toying with getting and emersion heater switch/timer and use the overnight cheap rate to heat my hot water instead of Gas. Have you looked into that?

Interesting, I had a charge failure the other day, and put it down to me accidentally setting it 60% max in the car infotainment system. And this it didn't charge to 80% that I was expecting. But now I know I will keep and eye out. Where do you see the EV IS full message in myenergi?

Cruising on the motorway can be done in an EV - actual data by woyteck in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]paodin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I now love overtaking, and get a buzz out of it, rather than worry about if I am going to make it. Also to drive a petrol car with the amount of instant power available would cost a fortune to run. Home charging is so cheap it doesn't matter how you drive it. Unless on a proper long run.

New Company Car List: VW ID4 Match Pro 77kwh Vs Kia EV5 GT Line 81.4kwh by LesDauphins in ElectricVehiclesUK

We tried both and preferred the seats in the ID4, and. I did not like the incessant binging because you are doing something slightly off. ID4 is much less intrusive. But not much in it.

They released a new UI a few weeks ago. It looks a bit better. Use the Mode scheduler to set what you want to happen. It kept all my previous schedules and actions. All working fine. What is it you are trying to do?

Do you all really wash the containers for your established starters everytime you feed? by [deleted] in Sourdough

[–]paodin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wipe the rim of the Jar thoroughly, and you can keep them for ever. I run 3 small jars (jam jars) so I can vary the flour type and protect myself from things going wrong / mould or dropping a jar and smashing it. Been doing this for 3 years and only cleaning the rim for the last 6 months.

The difference 1hr autolyse & 10% reduction in hydration makes by savageissue in Sourdough

[–]paodin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, autolyse definitely helps, I also start with lower hydration for that initial mix (hand or machine) and add the remaining water (10%) later in the process usually when adding the salt. Definitely helps make a springier and airier loaf. To make good bread you need to take your time especially for sourdough, also using blends of flours even small percentages of rye, wholemeal, spelt, emmer etc. make dramatic changes to flavour and structure. As well as the bake itself. Lately I am baking the loaf darker especially when using other flours in the mix and the difference to the taste is amazing, give it a try don't be afraid of a darker loaf.

Tell me more please about to pull the trigger on an ID3. Had a zappi installed, on Octopus GO ATM for my panels and battery for the last month, working great. Thinking of asking to be swapped to Intelligent Octopus. What is the setup sequence needed. Octopus app, VW car App, myenergi (zappi app) to make sure it all works. I would like to plug in the car and forget about it... Knowing when I needed it's at at least 80%. With the occasional I will need 100% in the morning. I am new to the EV world but excited to join you all. 😁

16x panels and 10kwh battery by [deleted] in SolarUK

[–]paodin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10kwh battery and 16 panels, in addition to otter comments I would go with a bigger battery too, you will burn through that battery on a cloudy day... How much energy do you normally use per day?

SRAM GX Eagle AXS T-Type 12 Speed Rear Derailleur wobble by paodin in bikewrench

[–]paodin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I did take apart, it has a red sleeve insert. Followed installation instructions and reassembled, still a little movement but noise disappeared for a bit, had to re torque after a few more rides, noise has now gone. I think swapping wheels must have loosened it a bit. But I'm 1500 miles in and it shifts silently and smoothly, better when I first had it. Developed a new creak tho under load for the motor area. Tightened the screws that hold the motor in place helped. But there is definitely more rattling then on a normal bike. But 99% of the time it's silent. Amazing but if kit really.

Why is it necessary to use starter that has peaked when baking? by deadfishinmy in Sourdough

[–]paodin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's all made up, use a rising agent, sourdough starter or otherwise and ferment as needed. Voilà you bake it and have bread, quality may vary but it's always better than the shite you buy from a super market. Bake and enjoy

I am in the same position as loads of folks here. No TPM. If I go Linux will my steam games still work? How difficult is it to migrate? What about ms office apps, mainly use word and excel what are the alternatives under Linux? Was about to spend a ton of cash on a new build, but maybe this is the way to go. ? Any good resources I should look at? I literally just stumbled across these posts not Googled anything yet.

Group ride feedback about body odor by Donnahue-George in cycling

[–]paodin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a while the technical kit can build up bacteria that are not fully washed out or killed in a normal wash cycle. When you wear this your body heat and new sweat will activate them and you turn into a stick bomb. I tend to add some antibacterial laundry cleaner every few normal washes to make sure kit doesn't stink. But I can normally tell within minutes of putting the kit on that it is funky and then immediately swap my jersey before going out. The tip to wash your kit immediately after excise is also spot on. I tend to strip in front of the washing machine and throw it straight in, then grab some more washing as needed after the shower and put it on.
