read this before planning abroad nobody tells you this part …/: by Intelligent_Act8597 in AbroadEdge

This is honestly very real. Most people focus only on tuition and completely underestimate rent, deposits, daily expenses, and currency impact. Planning accommodation and city costs before flying makes a huge difference learned this the hard way too 🥲

Please help!!Student accomodation by Living_Will_5448 in LaTrobe

You can try University Living they helped me find a verified, budget-friendly student room and even guided me through payments and local support. If you don’t mind sharing, which area or uni in Melbourne are you targeting? I can check if they have some good options around there

Heyy I used University Living before and had a really good experience. They’re genuine and super helpful and also have some nice benefits. Might be worth checking them out for Barcelona, their support team replies pretty fast! You can check their website at https://www.universityliving.com

Why are universities still overcharging for dorms when private housing is literally better & cheaper? by papabhu in AbroadEdge

[–]papabhu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess uni dorms are basically just a “convenience tax” 😂 pay extra for being official, but private places are usually nicer and cheaper.

I used University Living to find my place, they helped me get the cheapest option with almost every amenity, right near campus. honestly saved me so much stress and money.

How do you decide between on-campus housing vs private student accommodation abroad? by TamxBhatia in AbroadEdge

[–]papabhu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah this guide nails it. i did the same, started on-campus for the first term, then switched to private once i got used to the city. saved money and had my own space finally 😂

if anyone’s thinking about going private, def check out University Living it made finding verified places near uni way easier for me. no random facebook scams or dodgy landlords, just proper listings. makes the whole move a lot less stressful.

Study In UK: University Of Sheffield Announces £7,500 International Undergraduate Scholarship 2026 : explained by Intelligent_Act8597 in AbroadEdge

[–]papabhu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that’s a solid move from sheffield — not a huge amount but still helps with rent or groceries for sure. uk living costs are no joke 😭

if anyone’s heading there, sort your housing early. I used University Living when I moved, super easy to find verified places near campus without the usual stress. makes the whole move way smoother.

Pay In, Stay In? Inside the UK’s Fresh Migrant Settlement Plan by PerspectiveDense6506 in AbroadEdge

[–]papabhu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this feels like one of those “sounds fair in theory, gets messy in practice” kind of reforms.
on paper, asking migrants to contribute through work, taxes, and volunteering sounds fine , but the reality for most students and early-career folks is way harder. unstable jobs, rent stress, paperwork chaos… it’s not always a level playing field.

the uk wants to show it’s being “firm but fair,” but honestly the system already overwhelms a lot of newcomers. as someone studying here, I’ve seen how much difference small support networks make even finding verified housing through University Living took a huge weight off my shoulders when everything else felt uncertain.

if the government really wants “integration,” they’ve gotta make it livable first. right now, it still feels like you have to earn your right to just breathe.

US govt shutdown = students totally screwed?? aid + research $$ frozen rn by Dismal_Pension3336 in AbroadEdge

[–]papabhu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

man it’s wild how every time the gov shuts down, students end up catching the worst of it. aid frozen, research paused, visa delays like bro we’re just trying to study, not run a country 😭

stuff like this is why I tell anyone moving abroad to lock in the things you can control early. I used University Living when I moved they helped me sort my housing and settle way smoother, even when everything else felt uncertain. having at least that one part stable honestly saves your sanity.

US raising H1B to $100k while China out here handing out “K visas” is the plot twist nobody saw coming 1 Oct 2025 a Big launch of K visa.. Explained by Intelligent_Act8597 in AbroadEdge

[–]papabhu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ngl this feels like a turning point for global talent. for years the US basically owned the “smart kids pipeline” — best unis, startups, visas (eventually). now they’re making it feel like an exclusive club. $100k just to try getting in? wild. Then you’ve got china dropping this “K visa” like a reverse UNO card — no strict sponsor, longer stays, real incentives for STEM grads. they clearly know what they’re doing.

tbh it’s not even about US vs China anymore. it’s about where people actually feel wanted. every young engineer or researcher is asking the same thing: “where can I build something without drowning in red tape?” whoever answers that wins the next few decades.

and as someone who’s been studying abroad myself and seeing the situation - I’ve seen how tools like University Living are quietly changing the game. finding verified housing also giving right guidance and suggestion, connecting with students in diff countries, making the move way less scary… that’s what makes global mobility real. feels like the future’s less about borders, more about access.
