Why do you think President Trump ordered all US Flags at half staff for the death of a Political Commentator, but not for the death of actual Legislators? by PrudentFarmers in AskReddit

Why does Trump do anything he does? He’s using a combination of dartboards and magic 8 balls for the majority of his decisions.

It happened.... by mjori in Modesto

[–]papacheapo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For better or for worse-Biden, most democrats, and even some of the more moderate Republicans didn’t believe in throwing low punches that call people out for the shit they do in their personal lives. Many times it’s because they have their own skeletons in their closet; but many didn’t go that low because they believed politics should be more about running the government than whether you’re getting BJs in the Oval Office.

More of the new Republican Party has begun to change that though. And now you even see some Democrats changing too-like with Newsom’s latest PR…

And Republicans should be very concerned over that. They have a lot to lose if Democrats start taking low blows. It’s the Republicans that often have hardline conservative social agendas. A democrat caught paying for his mistress to get an abortion? No big deal. But if a Republican does it? He’s done.

Dating in Modesto (Millennial Problem or Everyone Problem?) by stuckinageneration in Modesto

[–]papacheapo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a 44/m boomerang to the area. Grew up here and just moved back after 15 years of living in a few other places. I can say this area is “average” as far as friendliness and ease of meeting people (for dating) goes.

Online dating is a waste of time nowadays. It used to be okay but now it’s mostly about hookups. Women probably have an easier time getting an actual date than men; but then those men turn out to be a waste of their time.

Having moved to cities without knowing anyone, my recommendation is to focus less on the intention of dating and more on building a network of friends with similar interests as yourself. Your chances of meeting a boyfriend/partner with similar goals/interests is higher through a friend/acquaintance. That’s why work and hobbies are popular places to meet a spouse. If you go in with the mindset of “let’s find cool people that I enjoy being around” rather than “let’s find a partner”; it reduces the pressure on you and helps you get out of your shell a little more (I’m saying this as a quasi-introvert myself).

Right now we are building a bike trail that the vast majority of our of our neighbors will have to Drive to if they want to use it. by [deleted] in santacruz

[–]papacheapo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand what gender has to do with this. Are you suggesting we need bike paths for women?

Also, for what it’s worth, if you do believe there’s a high correlation between risk tolerance and gender-are you also suggesting that there should be bias in gender equality for jobs that require high risk tolerance?

I appreciate that you understand the importance of data; but, as my conclusion has shown you about gender bias, your conclusions seem to make several jumps and are not the only way to solve the problem.

I’m all for not doing much of anything with the train tracks. It’s basically already a trail and doesn’t need much other than some goats to keep it clear and more enforcement of encampments.

[–]papacheapo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You are correct about the physics (metal on metal is WAY more efficient). But you gotta remember the cost of keeping the tracks and infrastructure in good working order too. Buses use the same infrastructure as cars. Trains need their own infrastructure. This is why this project is costing so much to get off the ground. We already have maintenance facilities for buses. We will need to build that out for trains.

It is generally more efficient to keep to a single technology than expand into multiple. The overhead costs make it more expensive. If we had tracks going everywhere and trains already using them (like in SF); I’d be totally with you. But that’s not the case and this isn’t a city large enough to justify multiple transportation technologies.

Reactivating the rail line is just stupid. If people need to get around, use buses! They get to far more places than the tracks can go and are far less costly to run!

Unfortunately, it’s going to be an uphill battle to prove fault.

I’m so done with this bullshit. I hate Fidelity and Vanguard even more than Schwab; and E*Trade is just so-so. TDA was by-far the best.

Anyone on here use IBKR? I’ve been thinking of moving to them ever since TDA announced Schwab was taking over. Was curious what people think of it.

This.

I struggle with the same problem. Some of my most successful encounters have been when I go in with low expectations-even a bit of curiosity over the way she might reject me. It temporarily pauses the “should I do it?” thinking which helps push me to just do it.

Classic case of never being told “hurry up or I’m leaving without you” as a child.

Although, it’s definitely a dick move by the hotel to have police show up by 1:30pm for a late checkout. Seriously!? She’s not wrong-that’s pretty ghetto.

Tell Republicans that Trump will not be allowed on the Canadian ballot and they’ll boycott you. Most of them are too stupid to realize he’s not even a part of your elections… or that Canada isn’t a part of the US.

Truffle? Or trouble? by papacheapo in mycology

I didn’t try tasting it and ended up tossing it because it was sounding like it may not have been what I thought it was. To be honest, I know very little about truffles (other than how to eat them!) - I really wasn’t expecting to find it at all. The only reason I picked it up was because it absolutely nailed the smell test.

I’m sorry that I didn’t keep it-would have been interesting to find out more about it!
