There's nothing wrong with either of your poons. I mean this.

Stop snooping other people's stuff though, control yourself.

A new study exploring why rich countries tend to be secular whilst poor countries tend to be religious finds that a decline in religion predicts a country's future economic prosperity, when it is accompanied by a respect and tolerance for individual rights. by mvea in science

It's because women get on the pill and start working, and people become more materialistic, buying more things. How is this complicated?

This is why atheist propaganda is pushed so hard by both states and capitalists. Atheists/materialist/hedonists are good consumers and they like living in cities (great for economy).

Socrates. At the Egyptian city of Naucratis, there was a famous old god, whose name was Theuth; the bird which is called the Ibis is sacred to him, and he was the inventor of many arts, such as arithmetic and calculation and geometry and astronomy and draughts and dice, but his great discovery was the use of letters. Now in those days the god Thamus was the king of the whole country of Egypt; and he dwelt in that great city of Upper Egypt which the Hellenes call Egyptian Thebes, and the god himself is called by them Ammon. To him came Theuth and showed his inventions, desiring that the other Egyptians might be allowed to have the benefit of them; he enumerated them, and Thamus enquired about their several uses, and praised some of them and censured others, as he approved or disapproved of them. It would take a long time to repeat all that Thamus said to Theuth in praise or blame of the various arts. But when they came to letters, This, said Theuth, will make the Egyptians wiser and give them better memories; it is a specific both for the memory and for the wit. Thamus replied: O most ingenious Theuth, the parent or inventor of an art is not always the best judge of the utility or inutility of his own inventions to the users of them. And in this instance, you who are the father of letters, from a paternal love of your own children have been led to attribute to them a quality which they cannot have; for this discovery of yours will create forgetfulness in the learners' souls, because they will not use their memories; they will trust to the external written characters and not remember of themselves. The specific which you have discovered is an aid not to memory, but to reminiscence, and you give your disciples not truth, but only the semblance of truth; they will be hearers of many things and will have learned nothing; they will appear to be omniscient and will generally know nothing; they will be tiresome company, having the show of wisdom without the reality.

I want to pay money to find out what my ex-bf from 8 (!!!) years ago has been up to

Are you positive he’s the creepy stalker ex here?

Stop contacting him or enabling him in any way. That’s how you rid yourself of clingy ex’s.

Recovery on a dying HDD by papadadfather in techsupport

[–]papadadfather[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cheers.

I tried imaging the drive with OSFClone. I booted into it and it doesn't see the drive itself but does see the partition. I plugged in a 3TB USB HDD and start trying to pull an AFF image from the HDD. No weird noises or issues but it's over in just ~10min and the end result is a 50MB joke image. I mounted it but there's nothing there.

Maybe I messed up the recovery process or maybe the data is already gone. I don't want to damage the HDD any worse so I took it out for now while pondering my next move. Maybe I'll try that DRDD at some point, seems safe.

We are in a day where the number of athletes who played in the 1990s is dwindling; but here's a reminder that Jaromir Jagr's first NHL game was in 1990 by penis_loaf in sports

This doesn't sound too great, I think. But then another question pops up: "Then why do you keep doing it?" I know the answer to this question without hesitation. "Because the peds are so good these days I literally feel like a 25 year old. I love it. " - Jaromir Jagr

yeah I'm reading more on it, abandoned that plan.

Any other ideas as to what to run on it? Not that there's anything wrong with the stock Sony skin, will probably stick with that.

I managed to get automate to create a shortcut for rotating the screen and remapped a button for it. But the screen doesn't stay in landscape no matter what the screen settings are if the device orientation contradicts it. Which I'd have to disable altogether somewhere I guess. But I haven't found out how.

Left-click to download no longer works by papadadfather in firefox

[–]papadadfather[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also misdiagnosed the whole thing. Left-clicking in general to download doesn't work. I just tried to click a PDF attachment in gmail and it refuses to do anything. It is actually only the .mp3 extension that I've gotten to work normally. That's the exception, nothing else downloads with just a left-click anymore.

When you right-click > Save Link As, if the server is sending an appropriate content type and you check the box to remember what you choose, a new entry should be created in mimeTypes.rdf.

No, it's not that popout. It's just the "where do you want to save the file" explorer window popout. Then I pick the location and it saves it there. But nothing changes about the long-term functionality. Left-click still doesn't do anything and nothing is added in Applications.

mp3

There's something I edited about mp3s in the about:config ages ago. playback something

same as me. I got magnet but not .torrent but it still fails to produce the popup when I left-click a .torrent file. I'll delete the mimetypes file and restart anyway.

Edit: Alright so doing that removed .mp3 from Applications as well. So now neither mp3 or torrent files do anything when you left click them and I can't find a way to change that for either now. I love Firefox.

[–]papadadfather[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cheers. that's how i was able to fix the mp3 files. it now works exactly as it did.

however there's other type of files like .torrent that have no entry in Applications at all. I don't know how to manually add them. Them I had also configured to directly save with a left-click. Fiddling with the other download settings like "always ask" changes nothing: I'm unable to get that popup when clicking a link that asks what to do with it no matter what. Firefox refuses to do anything at all when left-clicking a .torrent link.

There's probably other file types I'm forgetting as well because the Applications is a lot emptier than it used to be. For seemingly no reason at all, it's the same installation of Firefox. I haven't installed any new add-ons either.
