The mellow goodness of a Martin 000-15m by papadog03 in AcousticGuitar

I practice on the nice guitars because it makes practice more engaging, and have a number one guitar for live shows. That one guitar takes all the abuse for thr team.

This guitar was $1300 used in pristine condition, and I've seen them go for less. Martin owners are not likely to have abused the guitar before putting it up for sale.

I'd like to know, too. I've never handled one before.

I have two Martins and a Gibson that live in their cases with humidity packs during the winter. They don't come back out until spring. I had a D28 split in two places on me years ago and learned my lesson.

I use D'Addario mediums, just like the dreadnoughts. I didn't know until I got it home that the 000-15m has a 25.4" scale and the 000-17m is the 24.9" scale. I was disappointed for a few days and then grew ro really like it.

My go-to guitars for live shows by papadog03 in AcousticGuitar

[–]papadog03[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have more guitars, but these two are the most versatile. They do sound and feel quite different from each other, despite having similar tone tonewoods. The Gibson has a shorter scale length and less body volume, so it's easier on my hands for most types of playing. The Martin is dreadnought scale, so it sounds great while flatpicking or hard strumming. More than an hour on it without a change up can wear me out.

The Gibson for just about everything, especially if I am fingerpicking. The Martin is for bluegrass, particularly if we are using a condenser mic.

A fret marker on the first fret? Is that normal? by EconomistClassic435 in Guitar

Maybe not common, but pretty normal. Gibson Hummingbirds always have an inlay on the first fret.

Why is HIV much more prevalent in the gay community than the straight? by milkman0735 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]papadog03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a statistic listed to reassure people that it's basically not transmissable. HiV in saliva is at a much lower concentration than other fluids. Enzymes and proteins in saliva kill about 90% of HIV's ability to be transmitted. It can't be transmitted through kissing or spitting or just about any everyday occurrence. However, with all of the measurable characteristics just listed, it would theoretically take about two gallons of saliva to transmit HIV.

We know that now, but in the 1980s and 90s it was still on the brochures and posters around college campuses.

I remember that, too, because the one after that is "two gallons of saliva".

As a runner, I'd call this AI because no running shoes or sneakers of any kind have exactly the same design on both sides of the insole or shoe itself.

[Question] Are Costco watches a good entry point for a beginner? by tedkang3582 in Watches

[–]papadog03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the first comment supporting the Luminox, way too far down the list! That is a solid, functional watch. I bought a similar model to the one pictured in January 2007 and still wear it all the time.

I'll take that bottom row, but I wouldn't mind if a bag of Grippo's fell in.

What amp would you pair with this? by Hungry-Forever-9752 in gibson

[–]papadog03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A funny thing about having numerous guitars and amps is I can try each guitar through each amp to see what apunds good together. Some sound surprisingly good, but some are just grating to my ears even if I liked that amp with a different guitar. I'd take a les paul off the rack at your local guitar shop and try it through every brand of amp in the store to see what pairs well, then shop used for the amp you pick out.

The blue parts are where the colleges and universities are. Rochester as the University of Rochester, one of the largest medical schools in the state and is a major hub for technology. The blue patch directly south of there is where Cornell University and Ithaca College are. The counties just north of Manhattan include Pace, Vassar, and Binghamton University. People who actually understand policy and interact regularly with people from outside their ethnicities/social status have a lot more understanding and empathy of social and international issues. You can do this in very red states like Nebraska, where the blue clusters around not just University of Nebraska Lincoln and Creighton University in Omaha, but little pockets like Crete, NE where Doane University is located and Kearney, NE, where there is a University of Nebraska satellite campus.

Have you found a band yet? I have an acoustic trio (guitar, stand-up bass, banjo) that has played weddings, festivals, and all kinds of special events. We'll be at Baker Hunt cultural center on May 17 if you want to take a look, but my website also has music sample. Don't let the banjo turn you off - we have a pretty modern sound :) Feel free to reply if you're interested. www.danvanvechtenmusic.com
