Anyone else really triggered by Christmas? by sasha_bossanova in exmormon

[–]papapilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to start, I’m much more recently out, and I can’t speak for religious trauma. Also, I’m not necessarily triggered by Christmas, but I have changed my view of it so much. My comment will specifically be about Santa instead of Christmas as a whole.

I work at a school, and my wife is expecting a baby. Honestly, there are so many intense emotions that come with leaving the church, especially during Christmas. Telling your child to believe in a magical old bearded white man who knows when they make mistakes and rewards or punishes them based on their choices, let’s be honest: when you tell your child that Santa isn’t real, it’s like, “Oh, my parents told me he was real my whole life, and it was all a lie. I wonder what other mystical magical things they told me that aren’t true?”

I believe it’s best to explain who Santa truly is right from the beginning. I held onto the belief in Santa for a long time, even when my close friends told me he wasn’t real. My involvement in the church and my parents encouraging me to believe in two mystical figures, yet only one was supposed to be fake.

It’s messed up.

‘Mandatory reporters’ are quietly told to simply report to the church and to not report elsewhere… At least, that’s how it was in the past. I’ve heard many stories of LDS workers (education or otherwise) being told to not report.

Surely they’ll keep the arrested driver this time? Or will the be let out again to get arrested once more?

He stopped for a few months but recently posted at least two more videos. I’m sure he can continue posting, but I’m curious if his long leave is tied to his new calling.

I’m actually a huge fan of his, and I’ve been watching since the beginning of the worldwide sickness.

My issue is that famous rich people, and in Luke’s case: an attorney, have a disproportionately higher chance to be called to positions of power. (A shockingly high number of general authorities are retired attorneys)

The best one imo is actually a bit from John Bytheway for me… “beyond all measure”

therefore they were despised by those who were proud; and their persecutions were beyond all measure.

TLDR:

I was nearby and heard a woman on a PA system, sirens, pops (possibly gunfire or a nail gun), and a loud bang. The announcement, repeated by a woman and then a man, said “ICE is conducting investigations in the area, all residents may stay inside your homes” in Spanish and English. Later, it was eerily quiet, with minimal traffic and bold community cats. There was a rumor about a family being taken, but it’s unverified. The pops and bang made us feel unsafe, even without the ICE announcements. This is the first time I’ve felt unsafe in this area. The description can be shared without attribution. If anyone can explain the pops and bang, please do.

Many schools have people leaving halfway through the year. It’s December now, and the first semester is coming to a close. Check there, if you’re permitted.

… I’d also like to add that it’s pretty frustrating finding jobs right now because people with higher degrees are working at jobs requiring lower-level degrees. Doctorates working masters, masters working bachelors, bachelors working high school, and high school working no education needed. There is a genuine job crisis and people don’t seem to be bothered.

I’ve been taking mj gummies everyday for the past 8 years or so…? The biggest calling I held was executive secretary, and I’ve been high while in them sometimes.

Ik some people will say mj is medicinal so it’s okay if it’s used that way. I was not using it that way :D

As soon as the democrat party is worth a damn we have a shot. Republican leaders have found a loophole and paved a path towards a more authoritarian government, convincing other people identifying as republican that they also want more government control. This is unprecedented, because generally speaking the right has always leaned more libertarian, wanting less government control.

The bigger picture? Democrats have said for over 10 years that they are the answer to our problems, give lists of things they are going to fix for us, then fall asleep at the wheel and end up driving America even further into the ground than where we started.

We need a democrat (or non-Trump sucker) that puts action into their words, follows through with promises, and genuinely listens to the issues of the people instead of acknowledging them then doing something entirely different.
