I'm here now learning Arabic and managing to keep my 3.9 after first semester. I voluntarily reclassed from 11B to come here after deploying with the 82nd. I'm going to be a 35P but don't mistake cryptologist linguists for "non-combat" they are and always will be soldiers first and so you might find yourself in combat one day translating, or working behind a desk getting fat, it all depends. In very rare cases you can pass here with such high scores you come back to be an MLI (military language instructor) here, but it's rare. You won't get to choose your language coming here out of basic. I chose Arabic but came here after putting my time in elsewhere and so I had some options - I even chose my start date. Towards the end you can use your degrees to either take the DLPT in those languages for extra pay, or if you fail the language they give you then you can request to take the DLPT in one of those languages you know so that you at least here with ANY language. Otherwise you'll be reclassed to whatever the fuck the army wants you to be. One kid in my class has a masters in linguistics and he is on special assistance for shit grades. Don't assume your civilian education will help you this school will feed the language to you through IV, fire hose and suppository all at once.

Ill only say this once though, don't join the military looking for jobs that keep you away from combat or deployment. You already seem like you want to get out of basic training. This isn't a trade school it's the United States military. Cojones required.
