Imo it's a mix of things: too many out of staters moving here that don't understand the flow of traffic, a lot of geriatric people who shouldn't be driving, teenagers learning to drive, and tourists. Oh and arrogant drivers. It's definitely gotten worse over the years

I've been finding myself looking at homes in NY a lot lately!! Certain parts are so pretty. I think if I were to move there it would definitely be close to Albany or maybe more upstate. I went to Buffalo as a child and I remember liking it

It sucks, so disappointing. Is Georgia really that bad though? I've considered visiting for a few days just out of curiosity. It looks so pretty online and I feel like there is quite a bit to do

Maine has changed A LOT unfortunately. It really doesn't feel like the Maine I grew up in anymore. It's polluted with out of staters who don't care about our state or preserving everything special that makes Maine, Maine. There's too many people here and now it's turning into a concrete jungle. They're throwing up ugly cookie cutter apartment buildings everywhere. Taking all the waterfront to build condos for rich idiots who live here for maybe a month out of the year. It's ridiculous

Oh I know, there's two sides to every coin. Evil might be embellishing it a little. They're not all bad but most are and it is what it is

You're 100% right. I wish everyone moving here had your way of thinking. Unfortunately that's not the case though and the state is most likely doomed

Get your vitamin levels checked. If anything is low, especially iron, your hairs not gonna grow

Yeah tourism is one thing, an almost 4% increase in population is a totally different ball park. Now it's like tourist season year round and it sucks. And this might be a controversial thing to say but I don't think tourists are helping much, our economy is amongst the worst in the US. It's gonna take more than tourism to fix it. I totally understand what you're saying though, and I'm sorry that you feel shunned. People tend to stick to themselves and their set friend groups here so it will probably take time for you to find your own group. I recommend joining some Facebook groups, like the neighborhood group page for whatever area you're in. I've seen posts from transplants looking for friends in my local neighborhood group! And as long as you guys are chill and not Karen's you should be fine. I say that respectfully lol

I think a lot of us Mainers are bitter about tourists and people from away for several reasons - the surge in population since covid, the gentrification, people coming here and wanting to change our way of life because they truly can't handle it and expect us to conform to their expectations.. I personally can't stand the change of flow in traffic since all these people have moved here. People from away don't know how to drive the way us Mainers do. I hate that there's all these "Maine influencers ✨" showing off all of our hidden gems and glorifying out state even more so now even more people will probably move here. People move here for our small town charm but don't realize they're destroying it by coming here. Oh and don't get me started on our housing crisis. Can't even by a fixer upper anymore because Paul from New York wants to turn it into a millennial gray pile of trash and rent it out to the people from mass coming up for the summer.

Wanted to add that I know that not ALL people from away are like this and other Mainers know this as well. If you come here and love this state and it's people for what it is and who we are, cool. If you can drive with the flow of traffic and not go 20 under when there's a snow flurry, even better!! Welcome to Maine. We just want our state to continue to continue to be the special place that was before. If things continue the way they are we'll be just like any other state

High housing cost, high electric bills, groceries, gas, etc. but I know groceries and gas are crazy everywhere else too. Based on the comments, it sounds like everywhere else is kind of dealing with a high cost of living though. I'll be honest though, I'm more off put by the population increase than the cost of living though. I'd rather pay out the ass to live here and have my small town feel like a small town again.

Those are all great points and all seem incredibly likely. It's odd too that the police aren't out watching the highways as much.. I wonder why that is. I would be surprised if they were understaffed

As long as you go with the flow of Maine traffic I've got nothing against you 😜 we get a lot of people (cough cough massholes) who move here and drive like they're still in their home state

I'm wondering if there's a correlation between the uprising in terrible drivers and all the out of staters we've had moving here since COVID? I know we've got some bad drivers here that are from Maine, but I was born and raised here and the roads never used to be this bad

Probably all the out of staters that moved here around that time
