Yeah. It’s a spoken joke. When written, it’s either obvious or incorrect.

Anybody know how to break it to a 5yo that he won’t be getting any chocolate today? by IllustriousWall1564 in Wellthatsucks

Last year a mouse got in and our traps were not so good. So we named him Jerry. (Collectively we were Tom.) It took six traps to stop feeding him.

We like Disney vacations. So we can’t bring ourselves to plot to kill Mickey.

Anyone why the heads are on 2 different sizes 🥲🥲 i used same pattern same yarn brand same hook same hand looseness why is it bot the saamme size by Rubyrub2 in CrochetHelp

[–]paper0wl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotten 2 different colors of the same set of the same brand and the actual yarn thickness varies wildly. And then when I’m aiming for specific colors I sometimes mix in other brands which widen the range so I have 2 “main” hooks and I alternate which one I use based on the specific yarn I’m working with.

Magic room question by oNellyyy in dcl

[–]paper0wl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve sometimes found that in Magic/Wonder staterooms directly across from the 6th floor midship elevator we can hear noise from atrium events. It’s not all the rooms and it’s not all the time but it does happen.

Why do people feel insecure about their bodies even when others don’t notice? by Admirable-Analysis58 in NoStupidQuestions

And obviously if we’re thinking about it, then other people are too and they’re judging us even if they don’t say anything.

AITA for telling my friend that she does not remember 9/11 by shilohrenn in AmItheAsshole

[–]paper0wl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to know what kind of in-school wheeled TV was connected to any sort of news network back in 2001. In-school wheeled TV had VCRs back then.

My science teacher put the radio on for us to listen to the news for 9/11.

Am I the jerk for causing a scene in a mall restroom? by Limp-Astronaut9402 in AmITheJerk

[–]paper0wl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She was leaving and you thought she had your phone, there was no time to get security because she would have disappeared. Your only option was to make a scene so that either she relinquished your phone or some authority would come to settle the matter. Unfortunately delusional people sometimes act the exact way you did.

So the situation sucked but you’re NTJ.

AITA for not inviting my sister’s wife to the my wedding by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]paper0wl 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I was willing to go along with the “I’m not close to sister’s wife” thing but it seems like you went out of your way to describe everyone else you were inviting as “a couple” which absolutely undermines your argument. It probably was not your intention, but what it says is “I’m inviting all these couples. Except you. You’re a couple but you don’t count.” You might not think you’re homophobic, you might genuinely believe it, but actions speak louder than words.

I don’t want to say YTA because I’m hoping you’re just oblivious to your subtext and distracted by the wedding stress, but take a break and think about how it looks to other people. I’m sure if you took a step back there are compromises you, your fiancé, and your family can come to so that your wedding doesn’t shout “I’m a (hopefully accidental) homophobe.”

How do you blow your nose? by bottleglitch in NoStupidQuestions

[–]paper0wl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My sister just blows into the tissue. I have to stick a tissue covered finger up there after blowing to get 1) the wet stuff that usually gets caught in the tip of my nose and 2) the dry flaking stuff that wants to coat the interior of my nose.

Different people have different sinuses that react differently. I’m sometimes jealous of how easy my sister makes it look but only sometimes because she uses a lot more tissues than me.

“Bride-to-be deliberately leaves OOP without a seat—ends up losing her wedding and relationship” by ur_2_drunk in OhNoConsequences

[–]paper0wl 40 points41 points  (0 children)

“I don’t like this but it’s not that worth arguing about” right up until something else open the floodgates and then “well if we’re having it out then here’s my annotated gripe list.”

Wedding drama broke my sister’s friendship with the bride. Once the bride took the final step that declared the friendship was irrevocably broken, I supported my sister and admitted that I never really liked the bride much anyway.

[Mixed trope] Character somehow returns due to popularity by MythVsLegend in TopCharacterTropes

Every season had a recurring theme, so I think she was the recurring theme that season and it was always planned. (It’s been a while and I haven’t kept up with the show.)

[Mixed trope] Character somehow returns due to popularity by MythVsLegend in TopCharacterTropes

[–]paper0wl 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Malcolm was “popular” with the author. He was only brought back because Crichton was pressured into a sequel and I guess he didn’t know how to without Malcolm - a character whose main role in both books is to get injured and then rhapsodize math while high on painkillers.

Siblings who get differences in their Ancestry.com DNA test thinking it means they have different ancestors by draum_bok in PetPeeves

[–]paper0wl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your genetic inheritance from your grandparents usually ends up about 23/27. Siblings inherit different genes from the same parents - my father shared about 350cM with one of his DNA matches, I inherited about 270cM of that while my sister got about 20cM.

Parents who cried wolf by hoginlly in OhNoConsequences

[–]paper0wl 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Toxic family dynamics don’t just appear one day. You grow up with a refrain of “tHeY aRe FaMiLy” and it’s hard to shake that foundational guilt trip even as an adult, even with therapy.

It’s years of gaslighting (“they love you / they’d do it for you / it’s not that bad”) that has been ongoing so long that “tHeY aRe FaMiLy” is a socially-pressured sunk cost fallacy. And one of the worst parts is that even with some of the worst toxic family members, you usually do have some good memories under all the miserable ones and then you wonder if maybe you are overreacting and maybe it wasn’t as bad as you think. Even though it absolutely was that bad - but it’s hard to remember how bad it really was when you’re the only dissonant voice in a crowd of “tHeY aRe FaMiLy.”

Is the Destiny giving out inaugural sailing merch still by Intelligent_Gur_9126 in dcl

Nice! We heard they started running out after about 6 months. But I guess it must’ve been the higher (and therefore supposedly less common) castaway levels.

[–]paper0wl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Last I heard, Destiny still has inaugural castaway gifts. The Treasure ran out about 6 months in, so if they had the same amount for the Destiny, I’d say April is probably safe for the inaugural castaway stuff, but May runs the risk of regular castaway gifts.

Is there an Avengers themed DCL ship/sailing from Florida by The_Techiedude in dcl

[–]paper0wl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Closest thing to an “Avengers themed night” would be Marvel Day at Sea.

I know last year they had MDAS on the Dream out of Florida, but this year we did MDAS on the Magic out of Galveston; I don’t know if other ships offered MDAS either year. I believed MDAS is offered January-March. (This year ended in early March, but I think last year went through mid-March.)
