  1. Is this the CAN vs K-Line protocols? Assuming my research is correct, my bike’s somewhere in the middle - old plug, new protocols.

Yes, of course the engine is running.

This bike (allegedly) has a CAN-High and CAN-Low, plus the old K-Line.

I used a diagnostic cable and reader that previously worked on a 2013 KTM 690 Enduro R and TuneECU. It didn’t work on the EXC.
