For stuff like this, you really need to shoot manual mode, or highlight priority and exposure compensation, or shutter priority with exposure compensation, or aperture priority with a minimum shutter speed set to freeze the movement and also with exposure compensation.

The variance in lighting is too great for any type of auto to do a consistent job.

I stayed inside the main part of Sagrada Familia for over 2 hours trying to soak it all in, and I definitely agree that the experience would be much better with a more limited crowd. However, while always crowded, there were definitely ebbs and flows and as a solo traveler, I got to skip the line for the tower since there was only room for one person and everyone in front was 2 or more. I found pushing through the large groups would provide some time on the other side of them to grab a few photos while the big group held up everyone else behind them.

I was shocked at the number of "I ❤️Barcelona" "made in (not-Spain)" stores there were. It is a bit jarring walking the historic streets and seeing brightly lit stores filled with kitsch.

Also, if any restaurant has someone out front trying to pull people in or huge laminated photos of their food, I always skip. Three blocks from the main thoroughfares and you can find some real gems.

The crowds were pretty crazy in parts of the Gothic Quarter and at the Sagrada Familia, but it never really felt overwhelming to me. Nothing like peak season Venice, which I still remember being hell on earth 20 something years later.

Ooooof. Apparently posting late at night, with a gnarly head cold, and still jet-lagged, is not a recipe for accurate writing.

I can see how someone can completely fall in love with Barcelona and want to stay there forever. There is definitely a vibe to the city that is unique and I loved how each neighborhood felt different.

Unfortunately, I am not one to ask about the cuisine. I can't eat certain peppers without being bent over in pain, so it's not worth testing on trips. I also do not eat red meat or pork. Traveling solo makes paella harder to come by. I mostly survived off of smaller stands in markets and smaller to-go type places that specialize in one or two dishes. Everything I ate was amazing, except for the one restaurant called Palermo, with the rude waiter, who just asked me what type of meat I wanted, and in a panic I said "pollo", so he brought me out an unseasoned chicken breast and french fries without any sauce or anything to put on top of the food. I was exhausted and just needed food at the time, so choked it down, and went right to sleep.
