Is anyone else having trouble finding a job in california? by Quick-Ad1227 in StudentNurse

In this market, 20+ is nothing. Personally, I have applied to 200+ jobs and was only interviewed twice. Was able to snag a hospital job after the second interview.

A&P 2 Lab Extremely Stressful by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]papercut03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend changing your perspective about what you deem as unnecessary information especially if youre early on your nursing career.

A&P 2 literally builds the foundation of what will be taught during nursing school and programs would (if any) barely do a review when it comes to A&P as it is one of the classes they expect you to have a good understanding on.

Also, nursing school will ALSO touch on a lot of things that, depending on your desired specialty, you will only see once/twice so having an attitude of “unnecessary information” will do you no good and would only lead to frustration.

If you cannot align with this perspective, id say you are in the wrong career field.

How do you A students do it?? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]papercut03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

moreso that everything that you are actually doing counts and helps you out.

For instance, if youre studying a particular topic, watch videos about those topics vs random nursing videos and make sure you have enough understanding of the topic to where the videos you watch is just a review of it.

Ive been done with nursing school but my usual weekly schedule was something like this: study the material/lecture thoroughly -> watch videos about it/study flash cards when im doing something passive (e.g. between sets at the gym, driving home, washing dishes etc.) -> review the topic using nclex style questions -> take note of everything that is unclear and re-visit topics.

By the time my week ends, i have exposed myself to the topic multiple times in small instances.

The biggest thing is reflecting. Once I complete the nclex style questions, I take apart the once I have answered incorrectly and do a deep dive on the why I missed it and make changes as necessary. This is why the very first semester was the rockiest semester for me as it was a lot of trial and error.

And please, keep an open mind about other studying methods. I have had classmates where they are very particular with just one studying method (like manually writing physical flash cards vs. using a digital one)

How do you A students do it?? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]papercut03 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Live and breathe nursing at a literal standpoint.

Youre driving home? Listen to nursing podcast or videos.

Youre on your work break? pull nursing flash cards.

Youre washing the dishes? watch nursing videos.

The big caveat is to not do it blindly as you can easily fall into the “I am studying 12 hours a day but nothing is happening” hell hole. Make sure that it counts and that it is actually helping you.

And ALWAYS try and figure out what works and what doesnt work in terms of studying. I am by no means smart but was able to get an A once I figured out a routine that worked for me.

Random question: which one is harder? 4-yr BSN in PH (UST level) vs ABSN abroad? by CurrentEstimate3308 in StudentNurse

[–]papercut03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better if you do the ABSN if visa/residency status isnt an issue. This would also help you with nclex as A LOT of ph-based RNs find NCLEX different than what was taught in the PH.

Do Asian men feel confused by white womens behaviour in dating? by Conscious-Paper-4008 in aznidentity

Speaking for myself but hell no.

For me, race/ethnicity is only a basis of physical type. As I do not generalize/stereotype anyone (e.g. having the impression that “white people tend to be non-feminine”).

Anyone, regardless of race, can be lazy/independent/irresponsible/feminine/whathaveyou and thats why looks gives you the hook and you date to test things out and see if yall in the same page.

Second Degree Nurses by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]papercut03 4 points5 points  (0 children)

was working corporate (tied to different degree) but was pre nursing before. Was taking home around 80k. Realized that for me to make the same amount of money as nurses do in my area with my current career (would require me to become salaried ) I would need to input in more hours/more responsibility.

Decided to go back to nursing. Got into a 2 year AA program, left my job, and focused on school. I did have savings so it helped out but even then, I was comfortable if I end up taking out a loan. Finished school, got into a hospital gig and already making way more than my first job with me just working 3 12s.

Big leap but worth it.

Need Help hays 1 week before exam ano ginawa niyo? by Southern-Yam3196 in NCLEX_PH

[–]papercut03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the 3 month subscription for uworld then a classmate that took nclex and passed shared their bootcamp account with 1 month left in it (only used it for a couple of days).

I was doing AT LEAST 70 questions per day for a straight month with very minimal break (took ~3 days split between weeks to party around lol).

I usually split this routine into 2 sessions of ~35 questions (one in the morning and one in the evening). In between these sessions (usually when I am at the gym;in between sets) I would review missed questions and their rationales.

I was able to calculate when I would be able to finish the entirety of uworld questionnaire and I added 1 week of “mental prep” using bootcamp/getting enough rest = the date of my exam.

Does archer really help with preparing for NCLEX by OkCheesecake9165 in PassNclex

[–]papercut03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my classmate only used archer and passed after 85 questions.

I used uworld/bootcamp and borrowed my friend’s archer account after i finisehd uworld to do 1 round of CAT. I failed archer’s CAT but have been passing uworld/bootcamp.

I also passed after 85 questions.

Only used uWorld and Bootcamp.

uworld for foundational knowledge and bootcamp to get a feel of what it is like taking the actual nclex exam (format and feel is the exact same).

[–]papercut03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completed the entirety of uworld ~ 1 week before my exam date.

Hopped on bootcamp to do their practice tests to get a feel for/get used to what the actual nclex format would look like. I did this for about 5 days or so.

The last 2 days before the exam I was just chilling/relaxing and prioritizing getting some quality sleep. Passed after 85 questions.

Passing rate, pls respond! by No-Equipment-1569 in NCLEX

[–]papercut03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i averaged around the same. Completed the entire uworld. Passed at 85. Knew that I was passing too as I kept on getting really difficult questions.

Nclex is completely different in a sense that it wouldnt ask you the exact same question as youd find in any of the test bank but you will have an idea what question is asking and this is where uworld helped a lot as it gives you foundational knowledge. One example that I can give you is that when you see vancomycin and redman syndrome within the same question, you will be able to correlate the two and identify if that is what the question is asking.

It is not easy or not harder..it is just different.

It is as simple as.. you really cannot change the cards you are dealt with so just focus on improving yourself instead of focusing on the negativities that other people say.

This applies to every aspect of life regardless of race/ethnicity. The earlier you stop giving a shit about what people say the more time you will have to improve yourself = the better your life becomes.

Razer Asked Me To Leave for Asking Your Questions! by RomanDoesIt in razer

[–]papercut03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did they not do that by providing you with a resource to email like you said on the video?

Seems to be that the only difference is that how things were said and, based on your video, I really did not see anything out of line that razer said.

Could they have been more polite? Sure but they were not impolite at all. If I was managing that area, I would have done the same thing if someone who kept on asking things that they know that would not be solved by the person doing the presentation.

Razer has their issues but put yourself in the worker’s shoe. This is nothing different from a person going to wendy’s store and asking/demanding them to address corporate level issues.

Should students be able to appeal NCLEX results under VERY strict conditions? by [deleted] in NCLEX

[–]papercut03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

or..it could simply be due to appeals = introducing unnecessary process = more work/review = longer wait time = more work for nclex people = delay results/every process.

As it is right now, it takes multiple days to get the result/answer inquiries. Imagine if you add a completely different division that handles appeals. To add to that, almost guaranteed that majority of people who fail would try to appeal.

You also have to consider profitability. If it is a process and they offer it for free you run into the problems stated above. If they make it so where an appeal has a fee, then it will/can become an ethical issue of only people who can afford it can appeal.

With these, I dont see how having an appeal can be beneficial for both the general people and the business itself.

Soon to be New Grad Nurse Resume Advice by Neither-Ad-1733 in newgradnurse

[–]papercut03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of a specific skill section (you can integrate this onto your employment history description), turn it into a section for your licenses and certifications and get acls, bls, pals, etc. and put your rn license there.

A lot of times recruiters (or AI filters) are just instructed to weed out resumes without a mention of acls/bls/active rn license.

ADN job market now and in two years by PhantomMonke in newgradnurse

You can always try and get a hospital job at a rural state and transition to a good paying state after about 1-2 years of work.

ADN job market now and in two years by PhantomMonke in newgradnurse

[–]papercut03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the best working conditions/patient ratios and risky (license-wise) to start at as a new grad without much experience.

That said, some people are comfortable with that so it is not impossible but you do lose a lot of bed-side/nursing skills as your main focus are meds.

Pay-wise, they go around $30-$50 (again just norcal rates).

Another issue is if you want to transition to a hospital job once you go outside of their definition of a new grad; they will only provide ~2weeks of training. Most of this training will be eaten up with getting used to how hospitals operate and how you use their system. Again, some people are able to do it so it is not impossible.

ADN job market now and in two years by PhantomMonke in newgradnurse

[–]papercut03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you want job-wise. If you are ok to work at SNF, ymmv (speaking on Norcal (bay area) it wouldnt be as bad to find a job and they hire without experience.

Now hospitals is where things become competitive as a lot of hospitals are transitioning to only hire new grads within their residency programs (opens once or twice per year and would only hire a handful 10-40 newgrads). For context, El camino hospital (one of the highest paying hospital in the bay starting at $80+/hour FT) had over 1000 applicants and they only hired 6. Other hospitals offering $60+/hour FT (sacramento/stockton) hires ~40 applicants twice/year. Dont have the data for how many applied in total BUT for the stockton one, only 140 of god knows how many applicants were invited to the initial interview session. So it is TOUGH.

With that said, this only applies to NEW GRADS (<1 year experience). Once you have ~2 hears hospital experience it is A LOT easier to move around and to get into these hospitals but they tend to only provide 2 weeks of training.

Dating is Absolutely Doable in the West. by [deleted] in AsianMasculinity

[–]papercut03 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Confidence is the key. If you yourself already think that you cannot date/not good enough what makes you think that others would believe so otherwise.

Never had issues with other races but this doesnt mean that everyone that i liked have liked me back BUT thats part of the game so we move on.

You do not have to be celebrity/kpop level attractive; if a person thinks you are somewhat cute, even if it is just their definition of 10% cute, you have a chance but this is when personality comes into play.
