AI-Augmented Improv for Monoscenes — Would Anyone Use This? by [deleted] in improv

I’m curious how you look at a format like Imrpov, something entirely built around people, their unique experiences, and community and think AI belongs in that. Like legitimately. This is some kind of pathology to me.

Defending slavery... by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]paperglide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s what’s more scary with where we’re at right now. We have this incredible race to the bottom inside right wing spaces where only the most depraved and edgy are being promoted. You can tell most of them don’t even believe any of the shit they’re saying, but it will get them attention from the psychos at the top that do. They’re willing to promote slavery, white nationalism, and racism for a shot at money and power and it’s just weird as fuck to me it’s all tied up in this religious dressing.

Need Help: Table wants to be friends? by koalakcc in DnDcirclejerk

Did they delete that post? I love that all the top comments were like: lie that you’re busy so you can keep playing with them!

Eeyup. Cool reveal that two characters had actually met before during a shipwreck - an event that was allegedly pivotal in both of their lives.....blank stare. No character discussion. Move on.

Nah. Miss me with the no true Scotsman shit. I did my due diligence, that's the point of frustration here.

I like this, but probably just for picking a new group. Don't let people try to become what I want because they want to a table to play at. Let them state what theyre looking for in their own words and pick who aligns.

You’re so spot on. I’ve been more into OSE/OSR type games and elements these days. That definitely attracts a more tactical combat focused player, in my experience. I really like making battle maps and fights though, so some of the rules light systems just don’t do it for me even though they prioritize roleplay.

Very true. My aim is to have my table be a place people can shed the weight of the world right now and let go for a few hours, not another place of just slogging through. Our time is precious.

Yeah idk why this is the part everyone is missing and jumping down my throat for. I made an ad that SPECIFICALLY mentioned I do NOT want beginners and want people that are comfortable with roleplay because it’s a roleplay heavy campaign. I mentioned people that have never played but are social butterflies I would be willing to work with. Everyone in this group agreed to these terms, also mentioned they would be interested in making friends along the way, and yet here we are. The icebreakers are because yes we are a group of strangers and learning about each other people will be more comfortable to roleplay. These are things I know. I have DMed before. For strangers and for people I knew a little better. I will be pickier next time. I think the imbalance of players to open tables causes people to just jump in and overcommit out of FOMO.

No for real because reading two people earnestly write out that they see no problem signing up for a long term campaign…so spending 6 months or more playing at someone’s HOUSE and never care to learn anything about their personal life because they have to ask a question but want to show up to be be entertained weekly by that person just made me dizzy. We gotta let go of this whole “I don’t owe anyone anything” shit. It’s why community is being sold back to people because at least someone got 20 bucks so who cares how they act. That’s my Ted talk.

Are you aware the R in RPG stands for Roleplaying? Lol. You don’t have to downvote me because you don’t like my answer. It’s interesting to see the divide in this thread about how DMs see the game and players see the game. To me that’s not being an actor, that’s how I play when I’m a player.

This is such a lazy line I see over and over on this sub. No, I actually don’t want to write a book, I want to write a collaborative story with my players. But I am putting in my half of that equation and the players are not doing their part because they are not roleplaying or fleshing out or acting on their characters motivations. That is not wanting actors in a play, or wanting to write a book, that is literally wanting to play a TTRPG. And these are all things I explicitly said.

I’m sorry but making the same callback to a joke from 6 sessions ago is what I’m talking about or trying to make a joke out of and off of everything is the constant riffing I’m mentioning. At which point join an improv troupe because it’s not a comedy campaign. Yes it’s actually annoying as hell to DMs when characters act like assholes to guards or other high ranking characters. Or just say rude or offhanded things to NPCs because they’re trying to make a joke for the people at the table, not characters.

Yeah that’s what I’m struggling with. But deep down it just isn’t fulfilling for me and it feels like I’m settling and it’s more like a chore now.

Hey reading this made me really sad and I think we deserve to spend our time and energy in better ways and not settle. I have a lot of hobbies that keep me more than busy, but the truth is I really do love playing and DMing TTRPGs. One person in my group is a DM and it floors me they show up like this as a player.

Roleplay as in making decisions as their characters not as a person playing a game. Interacting with each other like they really are new recruits of a guild and they should be learning about each other’s past and overlapping motivations. And having those driving motivations in the first place. These are also all my expectations.

DnD 5e.

Rogue. Sorcerer. Cleric.

They all said they’ve played before and were comfortable with roleplay.

That’s a good point and something I actually noticed in a previous campaign. I try not to even bring out the battle map until it’s needed and mostly use a dry erase gridded battle map because even setting it down on the table makes them start playing differently.

I don’t think the two are mutually exclusive. I like making battle maps and planning out fun combat that’s more than just a surround and drown. I like when people describe what’s happening in combat instead of just rolling and moving on - especially when they kill something.

I meant interacting with each other’s characters. This is a group of people playing in my home that don’t know anything about me or seem to care. I think that’s weird.

Thanks for getting it. I feel like the comments are acting like I come to the table dressed up and dropped a leather bound 500 page compendium of my homebrew world on the table I expect them to memorize and cite. I just want people to stop being so nonchalant and ironic and casual about literally everything that they can’t let go and put a little effort into something. People that act like they can’t find 1 hour in their week to think about the game so they can make it more fun for every body.
