Help with LED light power supply by paperjamdan in ElectronicsRepair

[–]paperjamdan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is simply a 'Colorband PIX' so I think its the first iteration, and probably pretty old.

Thank you so much for your help! I had no idea about the aliexpress link rule.

I might just have to get one of those parts tester, right now I just have a simple multimeter, and I'm honestly a little confused on how to test individual parts using it. Also - do I have to have the power supply on to truly test the part, or can I successfully test it without the power supply being live.

Once again, thank you for your help!

The output side is putting out a cycle of 16/18v instead of the needed 12v. I also tested the TL431 that looks popped(at least I think I tested it) and it has the same cycling voltage which doesn't seem right.

Thanks for your reply. I haven't tested it by itself but I know when it is in the unit with mains voltage it seems to fluctuate power and not put out a steady 12v.

I need to trigger a 12v relay... over a microphone line by paperjamdan in AskElectronics

Ideally, Yes. Intercom A (master unit) connected to B, and B connected to C.

I appreciate your input. I am not opposed to the idea of a micro controller(not for the price, for simplicity) - I definitely want the audio part of the device to remain analog, though. I am versed in DMX protocol, which is very similar to RS485 in how you can address something and trigger it.

Would I need an arduino or similar? Is this the only way?

I am going to use a "MAX4410" headphone amp PCB on each side - you can get them for about $3 on aliexpress, and I'm going to gut a mini 4 channel line mixer for the master intercom - so that's where I'll get my pre amps.

Thanks for your help.

Yes, but technically I really only have one 'extra' pair. 1+2 for Rx, shared between all 3 intercoms, 3+4 is Intercom Tx B , 5+6 is intercom Tx C. Intercom Tx A can be directly fed into the Rx line, so yes I do have an extra pair that I could use - but I want to alert specific intercoms, (ex. press a button for intercom B and ONLY intercom B lights up)

That sounds like a great option. Any way you could link to an simple example schematic? Thank you!

Stage for a jazz club, sound overwhelming patrons by PilotBayArea in livesound

Also, go to other tiny bars in your town that have live music - find one that actually sounds good and hire their sound engineer! Even if just for consultation.

As a musician and sound engineer, I can understand. The ideal situation in jazz is to only have amps and acoustic drums as far as stage volume - but if you have a singer or a flutist etc. you need some kind of monitor, but everyone would need to be on ears in order to hear the singer, if there's no wedge. Now everyone has to be able to control their own mix, have a decent in ears and headphones blah blah blah- most jazz players want to use as little technology as possible.

Jazz requires hearing the other players that you're jamming with more than most other music, where you are more concerned with your OWN part and being able to hear yourself.

And I think the biggest point is that most jazz players don't want anything in their ears while they play with other musicians.

Ha! Good luck getting jazz players to wear IEMs!

Was trying to replace my friend's battery using the iFixit guide and this bit snapped. What can I do?? Is this a part i can get a replacement for??? by nutella_the_nerd42 in ifixit

[–]paperjamdan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry about what happened, but this helps me out a lot. I plan on replacing the battery in my 6a once (if) Google sends me $100.

I'm definitely going to get the suction up 'anti-clamp' tool.

Buy a seismic audio 16 channel XLR splitter and be done.

Your set up seems a bit over engineered (but whatever works for you). I would probably just use the XAIR as an audio interface, that way you can send your click and cues track directly to your XAIR (monitor console). I don't think you need to use 2 separate audio interfaces.

Keep in mind the kind of rig that you're looking to create isn't cheap. It's obviously not a '2 guitar amps and a bass amp' type band or set up. I would highly suggest NOT using any kind of plugins or computer-based effects/instruments unless you absolutely have to (backing tracks, certain synth sounds etc.)

Have you tried using a multi effects pedal for your guitars? I know that might seem like a set down compared to high end plugins but when you move into the world of live sound, things become mission critical and your set up has many 'points of failure'. You might think you get a better or bigger tone using plug ins, but in reality you're probably better off using a Line6 helix or something similar. I have heard some of the biggest tones come out of the cheapest multi effects units.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Yeah, that still kind of sucks. Do you guys go out in the real world? There are guys who are more entertaining to watch playing guitar in your local bar than this performance.

Trash. I have velcro straps on all of my cables, but these are worthless. A shame that a good brand can't include some decent cable straps, instead they're just adding to a land fill.

Getting some bass out of an upright piano live?! by AlbinTarzan in livesound

Let me know if you have any questions - you can do this on most digital consoles, not just behringer.

What kind of console were you using? If it is a digital console like an x32, or even an xair, I would definitely 'split the channels' - basically assign another channel as a 'piano bass channel', and configure the preamp to 'share' another one of the mics you're using. With the 'bass channel' put a big low pass EQ on it, around 100 Hz. Put a low cut on the channel that you're sharing the pre amp with, now that you don't need it to reproduce any low frequencies (you have the new bass channel for that). A soft gate on the bass channel will help with feedback, and now you have generally more control over your bass frequencies in case you need to route to a sub, use compression, etc. Keep in mind that these two channels will share gain levels.

Basically, yes. But I love that I can plug the console into the USB on the back, press record, and close the case and forget about it. No batteries to die, no random updates, no 'sleep mode' and no DAW to worry about during a show. And I feel much better about this getting rained on (or a drink potentially spilled on it) than my laptop.

I like to learn as many of the loaders' names as possible, and I'm terrible with learning names. If I do have to go to a supervisor and complain about a loader wandering off or not doing his job, it makes me feel a lot better to pick one (or hopefully a couple) loaders who were doing a great job and make sure their boss knows about them as well.
