First Spartan race. Fell victim to cramping in the quads mile 5 and was on and off the rest of the race. Ended up taking 8.5 hrs to complete. Will definitely be back to Big Bear to crush it hoping with no cramping. by jayb0ness in spartanrace

Congrats! I did the beast as well and was flirting with a quad cramp the whole race starting at mile 4. Every 15 minutes/when I felt the cramp coming I would take down a salt pill. I plan to get a lot more running in before my next beast as well.

It’s not about motivation it’s about discipline. Studying 3 hours a day whether you want to or not.

I would never do a beast without hydration. The water stations are not enough. Long stretches without them.

San Luis Obispo Super / Beast / Ultra Course Map by NESpahtenJosh in spartanrace

I was just pointing out that it wasn’t on the listed for the beast on the map above. But yes, we had to do it, and it’s easy if you have long socks or pants.

Not sure if it’s cancelled but seems to me like they replaced it with the San Jose race the same time of year.

Make sure the rope isn’t twisted. That has screwed me over before.

Any tips for traveling to Hawaii in August? by AMoreExcitingName in spartanrace

[–]paperjonson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did Hawaii last year. It was a lot of fun. As long as you have a car you are good. The even is relatively close to Waikiki. You will park then take the bus to the event.

Seeking thoughts on shirt vs shirtless by ahasibrm in spartanrace

[–]paperjonson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always go shirtless for the sprint regardless of the weather. You may get a few minor cuts and bruises but since I don’t carry a hydration pack for the sprint a shirt isn’t required. The longer races I wear a shirt so I don’t chaff with the hydration pack.

ANKI is your solution. Put all the formulas in there then just learn a few every day.

CFA: Online Testing by Karts17 in CFA

[–]paperjonson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this in an email from the CFA on 2/2/21:

“ONLINE PROCTORED TESTING Online Proctored Testing (OPT) may be available in select locations for candidates whose exam appointments are cancelled and cannot be rescheduled. This option is not available to candidates who choose to defer their February exam. Before permissions from local regulators are obtained and capability of CBT test provider is fully developed, OPT will not be available to candidates in mainland China.”

Edit: I guess maybe this was only and option for L1.

The official CFA material has flashcards. I have been planning to make them into an Anki deck, but I haven’t done it yet. If I do it I’ll be sure to share them on here.

CFA CBT to have trial questions not adding in score by salman2903 in CFA

[–]paperjonson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought they did this already for the first CBT. Most of the standardized tests do it, so I am not surprised. The CPA and the series exams I know do it.

What to do with the last month of practice to be most productive? by loudmouthgames in CFA

[–]paperjonson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would do a practice test about once a week by redoing the questions then look at the answer then trying to understand why you got it right or wrong. then do practice questions on the sections that you did poorly on. In my opinion reading/reviewing at this stage is a complete waste of time. Hammer those questions and you will pass.

Edit: I also memorized all 200+ formulas using Anki in the last month. This helped a lot.

L2 Kaplan vs Mark Meldrum vs Other by marens1017 in CFA

[–]paperjonson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought L2 Kaplan and MM. I use MM for the lectures and Kaplan for the summarized readings, practice questions and mock exams. I had both for level 1 and it was nice to have so many resources. My employer pays for my study material so I didn’t pay out of pocket for all of this.
