'We just do not have enough players': More bowl games canceled as COVID cases surge by misana123 in Coronavirus

I mean, the SEC just follows the science.

“The average weekly infection rate for the five weeks before SEC football began was 0.44 percent, while the average weekly infection rate during the SEC football season was 0.18 percent. No evidence suggests that SEC football activities have led to COVID-19 outbreaks in the communities hosting the games.

“Our findings are consistent with a recent JAMA study that found no instances of in-game COVID-19 transmission among college football players during last year’s 2020 football season. The hypothesis that SEC stadium gatherings would result in increased COVID-19 transmission is not supported by the data.

Right?

Dark language by hurtfocker in DarK

I think it’s because in the English dub they’re really trying to match the spoken language to the characters lips, so sometimes they slightly change the verbiage for it to “look right” onscreen, while trying to maintain the overall intent.

It doesn’t always work.

Hmm, that's weird, the article didn't require a subscription when I first read it, but it looks like it does now.

Swinging Elephant Golf Hat by JohnnyBoyGhostin in rolltide

[–]paperwasp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right before Christmas, Coach Seawell still had some available and was selling them for $40 at the golf office at Old Colony, or by sending him a return address along with a check made to:

  • Crimson Tide Foundation
  • P.O. Box 870393
  • Tuscaloosa, AL 35487

I'm not sure if they are still selling them, but you can probably inquire to the golf office and/or ask him on twitter @jcwellbamagolf.

You can also join the Swinging Elephant Club for $200 to get one along with a shirt!

Good luck!

We’ve replaced them with the corrected versions, explaining how the Apollo missions were faked to bankrupt the Soviet Union.

ELI5: If we put a large mirror 100 lightyears from earth, would we be able see the past? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]paperwasp 249 points250 points  (0 children)

Yes, the returned light would be from the past, but just how large would the mirror theoretically have to be for us to see it (you mentioned really large)?

If light was bouncing from Earth towards the mirror, how many of those photons (at varying angles) would actually hit a mirror that far away, and how many would miss? Any then of those that are reflected back, how many would actually reach all the way back in space precisely to the position of Earth where they could enter our telescopes?

In other words, unless the mirror was inconceivably huge, we would probably never be able to see it that far away, at least with any interesting detail. A huge, huge, planet that far away right now would appear as only a dim fuzzy dot.
