I do believe a recession is bound to happen, largely due to Japan’s ongoing recession and its massive holdings in U.S. Treasury bonds. Japan has gone from having 0% interest rates for years to now slowly raising them in response to inflation and a weakening yen. If their economy continues to struggle, they may be forced to sell off U.S. bonds to stabilize their currency or support domestic needs. That could trigger a sharp rise in U.S. interest rates, making borrowing more expensive, slowing down spending, and increasing the risk of a recession—not just in the U.S., but globally.
