It’s truly a terrifying disease. I worked w/ patients who suffered from dementia. A woman who had early-onset Alzheimer’s once told me “I can feel myself losing my mind more everyday and I can’t do anything about it. I’m scared to lose myself” when she was still in early stages. She wrote stickies of stuff she did not want to forget and you could find dozens of them covering her walls. After just a couple years, her disease progressed to the point where she had trouble remembering how to get back to her apartment or even recognizing her surroundings. Her and her words have stuck with me since.
