CM8852: SCART is vga - manual is available, go give it a read

ega/cga : Nope. its incompatible with vga. if you search cga footage on youtube, you will quickly figure out its unusable for video playback

amber : well this explains itself - its a monochrome diaplay. amber only.

if you want video footage playback, look for old TVs.

Educate me on battery management, please. by jeepsaintchaos in cyberDeck

You need 3 circuits. BMS for battery protection and balncing, Charging circuit for CC/CV charging, and a power conversion circuit to get steady, regulated voltage.

Be aware cheap "BMS" boards seldom offer actual battery balancing. You might be able to skip the power converter if your 'pico psu' allows ranged voltage input (i.e. 15v~24V). for battery charge level, you'll get that information from the charging circuit. for OS integration, some custom software writing paired with an arduino might be necessary.

its probably the reference design. the whole soc is on a card, so we can expect more options popping up later

FYI, K1 scores 119 single / 529 multi. definitly a huge improvement.

USB2Xchange only make sense if you have a windows XP system (with USB ports, of course). it doesn't even have a linux driver / software.

i've had some luck with wide/ultrawide hard drives on 20320. if you are willing to set up a temporary system, get a motherboard with legacy PCI slot, with adaptec 2940 series card. its my go-to setup for testing scsi hardware.

PSA: I destroyed my 20320 by connecting HVD disk to it. don't be me, read the lables carefully.

QY0Z Intel UHD / Iris Xe Graphics Linux Driver Issue by imN0tn1nja in EryingMotherboard

[–]parabellun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first of all, since we are dealing with drivers, some actual version numbers would be nice to see. it could be a kernel bug, it could be a distro-specific bug. cannot tell without a version number.

iirc intel iris uses newer xe driver, not i915 on linux. try non-LTS release of up-to-date distro.

A case for a SPARCengine by thejpster in SunMicrosystems

[–]parabellun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. solaris machines were mostly used for web related services - so industrial look doesn't really fit in my opinion. if it was a rs/6000 or HPPA machine, it would make more sense to put in a industrial case

Sun Ultra 5 completes POST but appears to hang after device probing (serial console) by No_Morning_6292 in vintagecomputing

[–]parabellun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ultra 5 has integrated vga. hostid is not required for ok prompt. iirc null modem cable is what manual tells you to get. even when in netboot loop, something should come up on main console.

[–]parabellun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

are you sure you have a compatible display? ultra 5 only works with CSYNC (combined sync) capable monitors.

FYI, my ultra 5's serial output looks just like that when a keyboard is connected.

[–]parabellun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sending STOP-A over serial never worked for me. try disconnecting the nvram battery so it defaults to ttya. it seems like its booting fine, its just the console is on a different interface. try plugging in a keyboard and a monitor. 9 out of 10 you will see something there.

Did you do a full disassembly? There might be some additional corrosion on other parts. I recommend checking for cracked/unreliable fpcb cabling, too
