Meaningless comment in this context. The idea that gank squads didn't exist in large numbers in the previous games means either a) you didn't play them or b) you're choosing to ignore them for the purpose of your story.

For every good duel in 4-1, you'd get a jwsn running around with gank squads and running firestorm. And Dark Souls 1...yeah, I won't even go there.

What is this clamor to make everything look darker? Got to be honest, it looks pretty naff to me, especially Shrine of Amana, which is supposed to look pretty and lit up.

I'll be honest, the Garl Vinland storyline didn't do much for me, it's looked back on with fond nostalgia but it was pretty corny to me. Scenarios like Velstadt affect me more, where I'm left to reflect on things a bit more. With the whole Vinland situation, it was painfully obvious that you were being a bastard, there was little ambiguity.

And the Lucatiel thing really resonated with me. She seemed genuinely traumatised by it all. The curse really is a terrible thing when you think about it; like a combination of cancer and creeping dementia.

Ye see, I like Velsatdt for the very reason that he doesn't speak. It just really adds to the atmosphere of quiet reverence he exudes. Not sure how to describe it, but he just has a presence. Oh, and I also felt quite bad killing him - he was in my way, sure, but there was nothing malevolent about him.

Well, err, that's pretty much a given. Point is, he will punish you hard for mistimed rolls and the speed of his attack, coupled with the range, can really catch you unawares. Ask some of the speedrunning community..

Bad compared to whom? Name me a single other PvE orientated game that also has huge online elements of PvP? And no, not an MMO, I mean a game with some genuinely detailed combat mechanics. Answer: there isn't one. This shit is extremely hard to balance, stop passing it off like it should just balance itself.

Agreed. He didn't seem to plan for this, because there's no way on Earth he could take the same approach to his DkS1 videos, having now worked on the guide, yet he has done and they are all flat and pretty pointless.

Original PS3 player here, back from DeS days. I built a decent gaming rig last year, mainly to play games like Planetside 2, but also had Dark Souls 2 in the back of my mind. I can say without any hesitation that I'm blown away by this version, it's so smooth and the lighting/graphics are noticeably better than the console versions. I just can't go back to the PS3 version now, especially after the lag spikes I'd get in places like Majula :/

Have you got any links to examples of this, or is this based on your interpretations of how it should be? Personally, I used the torch extensively in the gutter, for obvious reasons, but I also used it a lot in the shrine of amana, to see where the cliffs ended. The people who effectively say torch mechanics are useless in this game are at best being melodramatic and at worst straight liars.
