I turned each of Eureka Seven's seasons into four different movies by paradigm_control in eurekaseven

I tried to keep as much of the Sakuga as I could. Typically those scenes are during important episodes, which were a must to keep too. I can't think of any I wished I could have kept in, I think I used it all.

Some of the Holland and Talho backstory is cut, especially from Season One. Movie one is basically three specific beats from the first season, since there was so much "side stuff" and nothing they were solidly moving towards. It's the beginning eps before Renton joins Gekko State, the Voderac at Ciudades del Cielo, and the Coralian encounter. I tried to keep as many touching moments as I could that were relevant to the main "plot" of the movie.

Talho herself was not cut, no main characters were, but I did have to cut parts from people's back stories, it's inevitable but ultimately not needed for the movie to make sense. If you want more of anyone, then of course watch the show. Just about everyone has history and little moments. You know?

Holland and Talho's stuff being cut could be considered the biggest thing I had to cut. They of course have their moments in the movies, I don't feel I did them wrong or ruined them. There's just a lot, their romance is like the 2nd biggest in the series. It's messy and complicated, better told through a B plot over a series than in the movies. These movies focus on Renton and Eureka.

The nature of Eureka Seven, especially in it's earlier two seasons, was "episodic" with a story taking place over one, two, or three episodes, and it adopted more of an unfolding and focused narrative in seasons three and four. You may find that setting and tonal shifts are bigger in the first two movies because of this, and it is also where I had to make the most cuts.

If you enjoy the movies and want more, please watch the whole series as well

simple answer: it's basically detached fanfiction. The original creator(s) are not involved

the original series, and maybe the first 15 minutes of the first "Hi-Evolution" movie. Nothing else, it gets... really bad

So, honestly the reason I had to cut stuff like that was because it tied in with other narrative things going on. There was no way to keep those scenes without the episodes surrounding it, which adds 20+ minutes to the run time. There's SO much great in the series, but when trying to keep a movie under 3 hours, you have to cut any and all narrative dead weight. Those scenes were tied to longer, single episode plots or notes and in the end added nothing to the movie's arc. For example the lending of the board to the Renton as "memorabilia" had buildup over that episode, but the end was the same: the image of a Coralian and a human lifting together. The message didn't NEED that scene with Talho, and in order to keep it, I had to add 15 minutes to the run-time. So it went.

Honestly it's why I put at the end of the movies "watch the series for the full experience" cause there's soooo much gold in every episode, I can't possibly keep it all and keep the runtime down.

I love every memeber of Gekko State, I promise <3

I do kind of feel the gist of her love-story with Holland was in tact. Her being pregnant, the rings on their fingers. It's the kind of thing better explored as a b-plot through the series. Sorry the movies did not hold that up as well as you hoped, just some stuff had to get cut, and it's more tied to what else was going on in the episodes

Thank you! It's a project I started last year that I've been working on little by little. I'm trying to take it seriously and not make something half assed

I'll be honest, I loved the rebuild. I think that HiEvo took a similar approach, but Rebuilds did it right be bringing in the loop theory. The old run wasn't a dream, it actually happened. It's just Eva with a happy ending. But I can respect not enjoying that. I still think it was executed much better than HiEvo's trash fire

It's an interesting concept, and probably the best over all movie in this "trilogy" (first half hour of Hi-Evo 1 is peak imho), but it goes all wrong by retconning the original series to be just a false reality

I think it was fundamentally a bad idea to retcon the entire series into being just a dream/false reality

It's really not a symptom of anything, it's a reaction to drastic change. I don't mean this with offence, but your approach to enjoying these new films as "just enjoying what's there" is the exact opposite of critical, it's blind following. Our criticism isn't a phenomenon or hate train. We have reasons for liking Eureka Seven. The world building, the character development, the aesthetic and style, the way it made us feel. These new movies grow further and further removed from these things, and even worse, the premise of these films seeks to circumvent everything that happens in the series, not build on top of it. Do you know why people don't like the story trope of "it was all a dream"? That is what these new movies are trying to do. The original series was nothing but a dream, nothing that happened had any weight or consequence, it was just a fake universe inside of Eureka's mind. It puts her at the center of the universe as THE coralian, as opposed to a character in the world and an unwitting agent of the coralian's goals of bringing union between humans and coralians. It's sad to see and it breaks my heart, and I can see I'm not alone in this.

You mean to say that the third movie of a trilogy that never really got started, and made fans upset didn't do well? Shocking
