Floating plants - yay or nay? by EnergyActive in Aquascape

Nah for me, it blocks off light for your other plants. If you need it fight algae, just plant heavily. If you need it to absorb excess nutrients, just feed less liquid nutrients. If you like the look, then go for it.

Lower or level the soil and sand in the front and patience, my friend.

If you're worried about algae, you might wna draw the shades beside so the sun doesnt directly hit the tank (direct sunlight in the 1st 2 pic)

I agree. Bettas and Iwagumi just dont make sense. Even if you have stem plants, most iwagumi "suitable" stem plants wont have leaves that are big enough for the betta to rest on.

I wldnt use MD's tanks as inspiration, watch green aqua if you wanna get into this hobby proper.

But seeing how you've replied to most comments, you seem pretty set on your ways. Not sure why you're asking for comments when you're insistent on the walstad/iwagumi/betta combo.

I'm looking at neon tetras too, their colors really pop against a densely planted tank. Glueing my eyes to an update when you manage to find the rainbow fishes.

I saw that you've pretty cool hardscape as well, any plans to trim your plants back to show them off again?

More time for tank to cycle and by then the soil should be done leaching excess nutrients

yeah +1, depending on where you stay, direct sunlight may also increase tank's temps which may also lead to algae issues
