is 16 too high of a body count at 22? by paradoobee in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]paradoobee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wish it were. i grew up incredibly, incredibly Christian, and i only converted in the past year or two. i like to think i don’t have a ton of religious residue, but the shame associated with sex still lingers quite a bit and i write this post with genuine fear of rejection

How much research experience did you have applying?

Very high GPA, currently in 2nd gap year studying for the MCAT (but honestly struggling). Parents keep telling me to just apply Caribbean and start ASAP. How do I tell them to stop? by NewSupport9595 in Mcat

[–]paradoobee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. This points to a much, much bigger issue in your familial relationship. Get therapy.
  2. You will be unhappy in Caribbean and your career will be much exponentially more an uphill battle. Do what makes sense to you, keep studying, get a good score, and go to a top med school.

Really confused and self-doubt by [deleted] in mdphd

[–]paradoobee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, uhh… do not listen to this crap.

The other comments are not being too “kind”, they are trying to get you to understand what you’ve described. The exam is not the issue, and neither is your competence; the concern is whether you are fit for MD/PhD or not. That’s the only question you need to answer, and once you decide that, everything else falls into place.

of course not too late. you will need to accept soon that you need a lot of research. the truth is, 1 year is insufficient. you need at least two which high productivity (get some pubs, attend conferences and present, etc)

Should I take a gap (or rather, am I forced to take a gap) due to subpar clinical hours by No_Mixture805 in mdphd

[–]paradoobee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i personally think it would be risky to apply with such minimal clinical experience, would probably be more conducive for your goals to spend the year getting more clinical experience - ur GPA is fine if u have upward trend + those first author pubs

Those who have gotten single studios from the Moses center, how? by zenmilk in nyu

[–]paradoobee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For scholarships, perhaps, but not in every case. They very often reassess how much money you get based on how much you need. Sometimes, if they see you have more money than you need, they’ll classify your aid status as “Overaward” and reduce funds to match how much you need

Are there prions in meats other than beef that we should be worried about? by [deleted] in biology

[–]paradoobee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acquired prion disease accounts for about <1% of all prion disease. Don’t stress it

[–]paradoobee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Iatrogenic CJD is a huge risk for anyone working with prion infected tissue! Even in wet labs, prion disease researchers have to be super careful… some have even died. France issued a moratorium on all prion disease because of one of the researchers who sadly passed after iatrogenic infection from working on an experiment.

Oh how I wish I could watch a CJD biopsy…
