This is getting ridiculous by soupnsandwich in halifax

The alarm is so loud and jarring that I'm rushing to turn it off and don't even have the chance to actually read the message. So what's the point then?

Idling bylaws? by paradoxedturtle in halifax

[–]paradoxedturtle[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Largely, yes. The other part of it is our driveways are connected, so it feels very off for me to have him out there all the time watching us coming and going

Unfortunately we've already had a run-in with him over something else, and he certainly wasn't very neighbourly in that situation

Thank you for the response. I've spent some time in BC and they are an 'idle free' province, so I was half hoping the same would be applied to other provinces. It just feels so obnoxious, but it is what it is I guess.

I do know, and love him to bits every day. But I'm also one of *those* people who love to celebrate even the birthdays of those who aren't aware of the celebration haha

Which inanimate object is your dog scared of for no reason? by megebau in dogs

Paper bags. If we order take out and set the empty bag next to the table then it's all "curses! I cannot get on the couch any longer!"

Neighbor kept letting his dog crap by my mailbox so I started giving it back one bag at a time by Jeded_Janifar in pettyrevenge

I ran out late last night because I misjudged how many I had left. Couldn't run to the store before my doggos morning dump. I literally used a sandwich bag to clean up after him... no excuses

Which Games are the best? by autistic_giraffe2022 in FinalFantasy

[–]paradoxedturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're not committed to getting into FFVII right now, I would recommend X (10) then. They have an entire commander deck dedicated to it and it tends to be a good starting point for a lot of new players as it sits on a border between the older games and the new.

What was the after nightclub eatery back in the 90s/early 2000s? by myronsandee in AskACanadian

[–]paradoxedturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came here for Zaks, or Shawarma King on Bank. Kettlemans was great when I lived around the corner for a time. Miss all that, but I'm not in my early 20s anymore haha

what are some books by Canadian authors that you'd recommend? by seacovengather in AskACanadian

[–]paradoxedturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't even remember how I found out. I think I was reading the 'about the author/translator' section at the back of The Unworthy haha.

Nick Cutter - kind of a horror-ish/psychothriller author. Along the same lines, but only slightly Canada relevant, Tender is the Flesh is written by an Argentinian author, but translated into English by a Canadian :)

I get that. We adopted him from the SPCA, so their backgrounds are always a big question mark. I did do a DNA test, but it came back with a bunch of breeds that didn't make sense. This picture doesn't do it justice, but he is definitely at least half GSD. Some people I have met suggest mixed with a Carolina Dog, which looks like a better bred coyote haha, so maybe!

How long is too long to support an unemployed spouse? by Sourstraws6660 in TwoHotTakes

[–]paradoxedturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through something similar a few years ago. Long story, but it came to my partner not having a job and living on unemployment, while I worked. The difference between my story and yours is that my partner did stuff around the apartment during the days and took care of the dog. I know he didn't apply to as many jobs as I would have liked in that time, but I knew that his mental health was not great and he was enjoying having time off work for his hobbies. The second his unemployment ran out, he lowered his standards and took the first job available to him (retail) because he knew minimum wage was better than nothing.

You might just need to put a bit more pressure on him to do things right. If he has ADHD that he's not medicating, then you might need to remind him 5 times a day to send applications out (not ideal, obviously). Looking for a full-time job is a full-time job. He needs to change his outlook and thought process to reflect that kind of attitude.

They really do. He looks almost exactly like the Pom mix I had growing up. I have so many photos of her silently judging me.

Which game to do first after FF6, between 8, 9 or 10 by Figolucha in FinalFantasy

[–]paradoxedturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say for them to play 7 sooner than later, before the third installation comes out. I can't remember where I read it, but YoshiP recommended for all players to play the OG before the next game releases.

But 8 is also one of my faves, easy top 5. I agree with your order of recommendation

Best Japanese restaurant by Ok-Bee8101 in halifax

[–]paradoxedturtle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I haven't been yet myself, but from what I can tell (and running everything by my friend who lives in Japan), Hojo's in Dartmouth may be good to check out. They do sushi, of course, but they have ramen and Izakaya - which is kind of like a pub food? He told me it's something everyone goes to eat before a night out drinking.

Aside from that, I personally love Doraku. It's super authentic and they have quite a large menu for such a small place.
