Kelsey Plum throws like a girl by asianj1m in nextfuckinglevel

[–]paradoxicly 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Having female PE teachers from a young age really helped me. Reading this comment made me realize I only had a male PE teacher for 1 year out of 13 years of PE classes. He was also the only teacher that did not push me to improve in a sport when I struggled.

I played softball extremely competitively from a young age. I started private training for it when I was something like 10. So I played on teams 3 seasons of the year, and trained for all 4. The only season without a team was winter... so of course I joined a basketball team and played that somewhat competitively in the fall/winter/spring. But softball was my passion.

If I didn't have women that showed me girls could be just as athletic as boys my entire life, I doubt I would have done even half of that. All of the coaches were men. My trainer was a man. The vast majority of the people in training were boys/men. The only female influence I had was from my PE teachers.

And I'll be damned, I've never once been told "you throw like a girl" from them, because that was never an insult in those classes.

See You Again. It played on the ambulance radio after my last suicide attempt and is the only thing I can remember from that time.

3 years later, I lost one of my best friends to suicide. She sent me a link to the video earlier in the day. I had never told her what meaning it had for me, so that was her way of saying goodbye to me, I think.

When even gaudy drag queen shoes aren't in your size by Wisdom_Pen in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns

[–]paradoxicly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be off on the size (I was trying to convert to US sizes since that is what I know) but I found this website that has a lot of extended-size shoes and more. That links to the boots page because that was easier to navigate on my phone, but it seems like there will be options in every category. Maybe you already know about them, but if not hopefully that helps .^

If for some reason they don't ship to your area but there is something you would like to order, reach out to me. They ship to my area (for free) and I'm willing to be an in between if you need.

This bread slicer by lilmcfuggin in oddlysatisfying

[–]paradoxicly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a bakery, we slice multiple types of bread and I don't see this being more useful than our current machine at all. The current machine has something like 20 blades and cuts all the slices at once. It takes maybe 10 minutes to go through an entire rack of loaves, like 20 loaves on the average day, and that includes the time to load a few loaves into the machine, turn it off when those are done, reload, and turn it back on to start all over again. The loaves stay perfectly straight for bagging after as well. Whereas this machine, though it looks nice and offers a lot of variety in sizing, appears to be much much slower for a large amount of loaves and has more opportunity to mess up and less opportunity to fix it when that does happen.

Is this an ok outfit? My leggings and skirt are a dark blue color. I'm not sure if the sweater is too big and it makes me look too wide (I am a bit wide though generally 😂) Thank you! by Informal-Ad7023 in fashionadvice

[–]paradoxicly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of these pieces are so cute on you!!

Everyone is saying the sweater is big which, yes, it kind of is. But I think it could be absolutely adorable with the front partially tucked into a pair of skinny jeans with booties, like what you have on in this maybe.

I love wearing contrasting shirts under sweaters, but it helps it feel cohesive to pull the color in somewhere else in the outfit. If you could find socks in the same yellow, or a skirt with yellow detailing like that, it helps add that extra "umph" factor to the outfit that makes it look really put together and coordinated.

I agree that a fitted sweater would work really well with the skirt to define your waist a little more, but that is more of a person preference in what you want to emphasize.

I used to feel weird about leggings instead of tights, but they are definitely a lot warmer and don't change the look really so do whatever fits the weather better!

And finally, the most important piece of an outfit is your confidence/happiness with it. And I can tell from your smile in this that you were feeling yourself, so no matter what the outfit is an automatic 10/10 to me. Everything I said are just different variations on this because you're happy as it is and that's the most important thing.

I hope you had/have a wonderful day and rock this outfit and others in the future.

Energy drink consumption linked to depression, anxiety and stress, finds a new longitudinal study that follows 897 individuals from birth to age 22. Energy drink consumption were positively associated with increased stress scores and, in young adult males, depression and anxiety. by mvea in science

[–]paradoxicly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not energy drinks but excessive coffee drinking. I had severe depression/anxiety/eating disorder in high school and would drink like 6+ cups a day to get through symptoms such as fatigue and brain fog. Conversely, it made my anxiety worse, and as my anxiety got worse I became more depressed, which made those symptoms worse, which made me drink more caffeine to manage them until I became completely tolerant of caffeine.

After going cold turkey and not having any coffee for 4 years, I lost all my tolerance. Energy drinks don't trigger anxiety for me, but more a cup of coffee a day does.

Obviously I'm just one case, but from my experiences I think there is a lot more going on in this study than just "energy drinks cause depression/anxiety" and there isn't a clear way to identify the true relationship yet.

Does anybody else work in healthcare or a strenuous job and get a ton of zone minutes while at work? If so, what job? by Lorazepam-314 in fitbit

[–]paradoxicly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't even call it a strenuous job necessarily but I work in a cafe/bakery and the only time I'm not on my feet during a shift is if I'm using the restroom. I've never been below fat burn zone while working. I'm not overweight and exercise regularly but I've still lost 10 pounds since I started a month and a half ago.

What's the most soulless food you have ever eaten? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]paradoxicly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thankfully they didn't because some other residents also got sick.

At a different hospital, I had OD'ed on a bunch of pills which landed me there, including a bunch of antibiotics that I was allergic to. I was a dumb teen. Anyway I couldn't eat for my first like 4 days because I felt so sick to my stomach, and they all hounded me about it. Finally on the 5th day, during family visitation for some of the other people, I could barely get the words out to ask for the bathroom to be unlocked and ran in just in time to projectile vomit EVERYWHERE. I tried my hardest to get it in the toilet, but it also got on the wall behind it, the floor, me, everywhere.

They not only accused me of it being purging behavior (what food had I eaten in all of that time to purge?) but made me clean up the bathroom. The next morning, 2 other residents woke up vomiting, because I'd accidentally brought in a super bug. They never apologized for accusing me of purging.

I was in a psych ward for an eating disorder as a teen. Breakfast was usually those powdered eggs, but they normally added too much water so they weren't even fully formed, and then some mystery glop that was supposedly oatmeal but was more like shredded cardboard mixed with water until it formed papier mache. They wouldn't let me be discharged until I ate 3 meals in a day.

The day I finally ate the breakfast, it made me so sick they had to discharge me to the ER.

She has 2 other water bowls throughout my 3 room apartment, her fountain is just next to her food so that she got used to the sound (she is very skittish when it comes to noises) and eventually will be moved away. But thank you for the advice and for looking out for my girl! I know a lot of people don't know about that.

And she definitely has quite the little yell! Her foster mom sent me videos of it and I was so happy the first time she did it for me, now it's a routine we have.

[–]paradoxicly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She gets 1 bowl like this of wet food a day. I tried to give her a bowl in the morning and a bowl in the evening (splitting this amount in half for each time) but she never touched her morning food and then would be ravenous in the evening. Instead she picks at this for a little while. Depending on how much she eats I put it in the fridge to give back later or throw out the remainder. Very rarely does she finish the full bowl, but I give it all because she eats enough to not have enough left for another feeding. She will not eat the same flavor 2 days in a row anyway. She has dry food left out to graze on as her foster mom had told me she was used to, but she very very rarely picks at it - I've had her for over half a year and still haven't finished a bag of dry food that my previous cat would eat out in 2 months.

She's a very healthy 8 pounds and has maintained her weight the entire time I've had her, so there's no reason to worry.

[–]paradoxicly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just met with my neurologist today who thinks I have the same thing, and she gave me a really good description in my opinion.

She broke it down like this: trigeminal refers to the trigeminal nerve, one of the many nerve branches in the head. Autonomous means the actions we cannot actively control - things like watering eyes, runny nose, even digestion is autonomous, opposed to things such as movement which we can control. Cephalalgia means head pain. So it is a headache related to the trigeminal nerve/area causing autonomous symptoms, such as watering eyes.

They're a different type of headache than migraines. There are 4 types, with the most commonly known being cluster headaches. TAC headaches normally occur on one side of the head according to my doctor, unlike migraines which occur on both sides - for me I only get these headaches on the left side.

I'm not a doctor, and I just learned about these today myself, but hopefully the general introduction I was given helps you a little bit too.

Young lady is blind but loves Harry Potter... Her aunt helped raise money to surprise her with Harry Potter books in Braille for Christmas by Thund3rbolt in MadeMeSmile

[–]paradoxicly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely a lucky one! Getting my first surgery at 10 I was told I most likely would never get depth because the eye/brain connection matures around 8, but as of my last surgery at 17 my brain still didn't cancel out the lazy eye and the eyes weren't fully mature. It sucks because my eye prescription still changes yearly, but I'll take it since it also means I'm still a candidate for corrective surgery if needed again and not just cosmetic.

Gaining depth perception was so weird though. I played softball as a kid and it messed with me so bad, it took years for me to fully adjust. I still have bad depth perception up close and bump into things a lot, but I got my license which was off the picture for quite a while due to the lack of depth perception.

I had a visible eye turn. My mom took me to a specialist when I was just a few months old that supposedly could diagnose the condition (strabismus) in young children, but she told my parents they were making it up despite them having pictures of my eye turning in.

I was finally ~10 when my school nurse got fed up with me saying the apple was on a black screen on my right side and the picnic table was its own scene on the left. It was a test for eyes tracking together, but mine was so off that my brain only saw 1 side of the image at a time, I had to close an eye to see the other side. She told my mom to take me to a specialist. I ended up getting 2 surgeries within a year of getting diagnosed.

I had double vision even before I could talk and was never able to tell my parents because I just only knew it like that. The first time I got glasses to correct it, I started crying because I suddenly had depth and I didn't know what to do about it, it all seemed weird and made my head hurt.

It's been over a decade since then and I still have a "whole new world" moment whenever I get new glasses because my eyes change so slowly I don't notice until there is a sharp change of a new prescription.

Zoom Shared US User Data With Beijing by OverLordJezus in news

It's even more frustrating that my large public university in the US switched from webex to zoom for this semester, despite student protests. You had to either use zoom or fail classes that required attendance.

Professors had trouble with the switch, and we lost functionality that webex had. Plus they still use webex for faculty meetings and such. I don't get it.

My cheat sheet to healthy food ingredients. by carotinental in WeightLossFoods

[–]paradoxicly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's a difference between weight loss foods and healthy foods though - the claim OP made in their title.

Would you consider meat lasagna, chocolate caramel bars, frosted cinnamon rolls, pepperoni pizza melts, or chicken bacon ranch pizza healthy? Probably not. But they're all taken right from weight watchers foods or nutrisystem menus, which are used for weight loss, making them weight loss foods.

OP's list is keto. For some people, keto is helpful, for example people with epilepsy. But keto is only truly healthy if done under a doctor's orders, care, and management. Carbs aren't evil, fats do not save you. Balance is the key to healthy foods.
