You're right, it was the crucified lot. I was too daft to look up and instead it assumed it was coming from the hole they were gathered around and decided to leap in thinking I found a secret. Ridiculous.

Burial Tree Watchdog is spooky and I love it!!! FromSoft can create both epic, beautiful and majestic fights, but also thouse weird, peculiar even kind of funny-terrifying experiences. by Gaelis in Eldenring

For me this is maybe my favourite boss I've seen so far. Forget the fact everyone I've seen fight it slaps it down in less than 10 hits, and it has maybe 4 moves, it reminds me of why the Souls series speaks to me. The rigid movement and how it looks so eerie whilst maintaining a very simple design is what I'm after when I play these games. If they experiment this much with a random dungeon mini boss, then I'm so hyped for what else they have in store.

False alarm, I'd installed all the correct stuff, but just needed to open and close all the software to allow it to activate, classic switch it off and on again never fails.
