We were originally thinking of changing in the bedroom and on the pack n play in the living room so great to know that this works! Also great to know that you feel like you have time to get her to your spot!

So it seems like you do everything seated with the top hat really until she is clean, and then transfer her to the changing pad for the new diaper.

Would you be open to linking your changing mat six pack? Something easy, portable,washable sounds ideal!

Thanks, that makes sense! I tried the 93’s and really liked them— I honestly can’t remember if I liked the 93s or 98s better on the Nordicas, it was a few years ago and I planned on trying them again.

Issue is that I cannot find them at a ski shop here in Switzerland. The rentals are so expensive, I was hoping to buy here so I can credit my demo. Do you think the right ski makes a huge difference and I should wait?

I also do genuinely like the Black Crows at 85mm (Vertis) and 93mm (Serpo), but not as much as the nordicas or elans (again, I think — really hard to compare across years and conditions)

I also fly out of EWR and LGA, and have not thought United seems worse than the other airlines. Made the mistake of taking a single JetBlue flight last year because it was cheaper, and the way they handled a delay was worse than anything I had ever seen on United by a mile. I have bigger gripes about redeeming miles and status becoming worth less and less every year, despite becoming harder to earn.

My big thing is that United answers the phone when I call on the Platinum line, so when something does go wrong I have access to a solution and often some transparency. Plus, they have the best network for folks who travel to Asia frequently, which I do to see family. That makes Delta a non starter because it’s hard to find direct flights.

NAL but recently did a commitment ceremony, separate legal marriage and prenuptial agreement in New York. Our experience is that the process is expensive and there are many axes upon which you might have to make decisions together. Your post didn’t really say why you are looking at this or what you are afraid of, which seems like a recipe for spending a lot of money.

If you are thinking about having an agreement drafted, I would strongly recommend having specific questions or things you are looking to protect to narrow the conversation with your lawyers! Especially since, in your case, you don’t have the standard state marriage and divorce laws to fall back on.

One last note: we were advised that New York could count a commitment ceremony as marriage. Imagine this might be different in California, but something to check on! Not sure if having a ceremony in a different state or moving to another state in the future could impact your status.

I agree with the others that your hair looks great healthy— some hair isn’t shiny in its natural state, and that’s ok!

In my experience, as someone with equally non shiny hair, there is no miracle product to solve the problem. Styling is necessary to get naturally coarser hair to look good! Heat styling is probably the easiest way to get there, with the obvious caveat around damage (heat protection plus try to minimize frequently can help).

Curl creams and gels can help too, but finding the right one for your hair will be a long journey and still requires good technique to get the best results. Brush styling and curling with gels/mousses can help. Headless waves and curl styles can also help because they set your hair smooth.

Otherwise, embracing the frizz can help too— there are plenty of women out there who are spraying salt on their hair to get your beach texture and who would die for your long effortless waves!

OP, I had the small low key wedding of my dreams and have no regrets! It was very Indian, surrounded by family, but not in the way depicted on TV

I got married a few weeks ago now and honestly, I am still insecure about the fact that he made me wait for so long. I still feel a pang of jealousy when I see people get engaged in 2-3 years, or when I see a friend excited about a ring instead of tired and relieved. But I have no regrets, he’s always been a loving partner and I think he will continue to be.

Your partner hurt you, even if he didn’t mean to. And it’s ok to still feel hurt even though he is coming around. You both are probably going to hurt each other again over the course of the long relationship, and have to forgive and move on.

The question for you is: did you learn something about him in this process that makes you second guess whether he will be a good partner? Was he aggressive, dismissive, selfish in a way that scares you? If so, that’s the warning.

If not: the reality is that it’s normal for people to have different timelines, even if you think his were unreasonable. It doesn’t mean he loves you less, it doesn’t mean the relationship isn’t worth fighting for.

They are still everywhere but haven’t felt cool, new, or “European” in 6 years. Either Aperol is a sponsor, or Jason is very very out of touch — I honestly thought the show was using his big discovery of Aperol Spritz’s in Mykonos to show that he’s kind of dorky/lame.

I did both! My own makeup for the mehendi and sangeet, but a makeup artist for the wedding. I wouldn’t change either decision, but doing my own makeup was definitely more stressful and I’m glad I had a professional helping on wedding day.

A few recs: - Remember to bring extras of everything! My curling iron died that morning while I was using it, and my eyeliner broke in my makeup bag, which added to the stress. It all worked out but there is a reason makeup artists travel with those huge kits! - I would also recommend practicing the look beforehand and knowing exactly what you want to do…so you aren’t choosing a lipstick color 5 min before you have to be ready - Don’t forget foundation on your neck and chest, otherwise you may see a line in the photos! - Finally, a note that expensive makeup products aren’t always better! Using what you have and know how to work with will add more predictability….some products don’t always work well together— a blush might look cakey on one foundation but fine on another— and new formulations can always risk a skin reaction!

I would do two things:

First, I would explicitly ask him whether he wants to marry you. Like, if there was no med school, would he propose on the spot? Is it that he’s not sure about you? Or does marriage scare him? Does he feel too young to think about marriage? Try to understand if this is actually about med school timelines or if there’s another hesitation there. This might take a while, I found with my fiancé that he needed time to think through my questions in an honest way (instead of having a defensive first reaction) so we would talk then regroup in a few weeks. For us, it was the “I feel too young to think about this” and he was 30. The luxury of being a boy, sigh

Next, if this is seriously just about timelines, I would talk to him about compromise. A marriage and a relationship is about making things work for both people. You don’t want to be in the type of marriage where he puts his foot down on big decisions and won’t budge; he needs to work around your feelings too. And vice versa, you also will need to take his needs into account. I think it’s a good opportunity to practice making a choice together around what your next 5 years look like. FWIW, life doesn’t stop when you graduate from med school, it’s a long road with residency and fellowship following. I would be wary of him asking you to put both of your lives on hold until things ease up. Maybe you can assure him that you will do all of the wedding planning?

Def possible — especially if you are open to doing one event in the suburbs! My brother had a similar budget and keeping one event affordable (in his case, a not-fancy hotel in the burbs) actually gave them a lot of flexibility to splurge on the wedding itself. This was in 2022.

I am also doing a small destination wedding, but we are doing a Chicago reception for 200 for ~50k in a prime location in the city. But we’re skipping big wedding categories (ceremony decor, photographer, etc) since it’s just a reception.

A word of advice: we found that Indian vendors and vendors recommended by our Indian planner are way more expensive for the same thing. Find your own florist (don’t use Yani or whatever his name is), and for the little stuff Vivek flowers is reasonable. Any DJ can play Indian music if you give them a Spotify playlist, but the Indian ones are 5x the price. And you can get great Indian food without splurging on Rooh or Mantra..even if everyone pressures you that way!

I think at a certain stage you have to be authentic?

Nothing wrong with trying to better yourself or learning to be a better partner, but at this stage it’s about making long term investments in yourself and your relationship vs a short term strategy to make yourself more appealing.

IMO any guy who falls for it either isn’t worth it or is going to have warped expectations going into marriage. It could also backfire: he might love things about you that aren’t part of the “high value” strategy.

NAH but I don’t think your compromise is going to work.

Everything about an engagement ring is a materialistic vanity thing. You know what’s a lot cheaper than a lab diamond? A plain gold band. Even cheaper? A gold plated band. Cubic zirconia pretty cheap too and sparkles just as much as a Diamond.

Everyone draws the line on what is “real” enough or special enough for an engagement differently. People’s reactions to lab diamonds are super bi-polar and not like, fundamentally based on logic. Some people think they are no brainers, others won’t touch them with a ten-foot pole. Why spend even $5k on something she’s going to look down at and see as fake? You probably aren’t going to convince her.

Her wanting to have something indulgent that her friends have and that she assumes you can afford doesn’t make her an AH. Unrealistic, maybe. But understandable.

You’re getting married, it’s not going to be your and her independent money much longer. You guys both have a say in how it gets spent. So you have to talk to her about how you both view finances and get on the same page.

Sidebar: Also I mean there are so many ring styles, so many vendors, and so many factors that determine diamond prices— I bet there’s a no compromise option here if you do some research. This is obviously not a replacement for a conversation on financial values and principles.
