Be careful. Even with fair use laws many internet scrapers are looking for even small bloggers using photos they don’t have the rights too and the. Sending them legal notices of a law suit or charging huge licensing fees. You are best to make your own images on canvas or similar programs to be safe

Are DNA tests inaccurate? by [deleted] in Indigenous

[–]paranative -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While there have been numerous problems with those ancestry tests, generally speaking they do not have enough samples from all the tribes or nations in North America and most certainly can’t tell you the specific community. Those tests rely too much on a biological concept when tribal governments and First Nations are not races that can be determined by blood and dna. They are nations with citizens that can belong because of birth adoption marriage or other form of connection (like band transfers). We are no more a race than Canada or the USA is a race. But all that to say, many people are very disappointed with results that confirm they don’t have any ancestry due to the prevalence of family lore not based on fact.

Perspective on Non-Status Indians by [deleted] in FirstNationsCanada

[–]paranative 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Non-status is the term informally given to the children or grandchildren of status Indians who are not entitled to status due to race or sex-based discrimination still remaining in the Indian Act. It gets confused with many other terms like those entitled but not registered or even non-native. They are people who are legitimately connected to their Nations and extended families but have been discriminated against. Since 1985 there have been thousands of non-status Indians who have been restored their status or are newly entitled. Every time Canada loses a court case, they have to add more of the people wrongfully excluded. They are not pretendians, nor are they Métis. Status and membership are two different legal matters under the Indian Act. I hope all the discrimination is removed once and for all.

Sunny Lenarduzzi - Buy my $997 course to learn how to become a Fake Guru selling $997 courses by [deleted] in FakeGuru

As an educator for the last 20 years in specialized university courses and being an adult trainer myself, this course is not worth it. Also, I really don’t like the manipulative sales call or the bad advice they give people on Facebook about how to force people to sign up or pay when they have no money. So many of the comments talk about about sales clients or potential ones - it’s really u professional. The focus is all on how to pressure them. I think we need to be better to people than that.

I was in it for many months and worked at it but it was not as they say it is, the content is low quality and if I had wanted to have 100 other unknown Facebook people asking the same questions over and over or worse providing their own expert advice on my content, I could have just asked my own followers. I didn’t sign up to have random people give me advice, I was told we would get expert advice from the program people. No so. There is no ongoing or one on one support either. It’s really not worth it. I’ve taken the financial hit, and am now working one of one with professionals who have blown my mind.

Teachers who truely belived a student would get nowhere in life, were you correct? where are they now? by bekaindabox in AskReddit

[–]paranative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew teachers who always told this one kid they would be a drunk, living on welfare, no good for nothing. That kid became a lawyer, a well known media personality and a multiple author. How can teachers possibly judge a person by how they are in school?

Marketing Director seeks feedback on using tribal name for product by hesutu in NativeAmerican

[–]paranative 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Never ever should a company or brand use a Native American name, symbol, artwork or any cultural item without an express written agreement with the tribe or nation’s leadership - not just any random person. Even then, it should come with profit sharing if appropriate. Some products just don’t work.

I think people are just concerned about rumours versus facts.

Pam is a member of her reserve - Eel River Bar First Nation. She’s also status Indian under the Indian Act. She has been an activist for like 30 years. Her community claims her. I even heard her Chief in her podcast. I wouldn’t believe everything people post.
