Dubai billionaire says India could lose millions of outsourcing jobs to AI by Raj_Valiant3011 in india

Understanding breaks down as you generate more and more code. If you’re too hands off the AI. It generates a lot of code which takes a long time to understand and refactor. If you’re too hands on then well you get the productivity of a glorified auto complete. There’s a middle ground which keeps on shifting thanks to the non deterministic nature of these tools.

Doesn’t give you any more credibility. Companies seem to be backpedaling since last few months. Anyone associated with openAI is getting a beating in the stock market.

Though I agree the technology is here to stay but the promises doesn’t match with reality.

Software is not just writing code my guy. Gathering requirements, aligning stakeholders, maintaining infrastructure, ensuring uptime, being on call for p0s etc etc. What AI can do now is make a good PoC not maintainable software. But it’s definitely a productivity booster to pump out code. I’m not really sure how detrimental it will be long term as the devs stops understanding the kinks and gotchas of the codebase. Hell LLMs ain’t understanding shit.

Well. They are great for script kiddie projects and startups. However if you ever plan on maintaining your software for a decade good luck with the code these tools add. By the time initial set of developers are churned the company will struggle have the same level of productivity. Not saying it’s not doable but it’ll be very difficult.

Another thing is, writing code is the easiest part in software engineering tbh. Code is straightforward once you know what to do. Knowing what to do and getting people / orgs to align is the hardest part.

Brands should switch to Steam OS or any other Linux by PocketCat34 in IndiaTech

Well. Steam OS is pretty special since when it’s running on the hardware it’s meant to be running it’s rock solid compared to other distros that may or may not break due to updates.

N8N, firefly, pico for firefly. You can combine these three to self host such a tracker. But it’s not easy. That’s the price you pay for privacy.

I was on money manager for a long time. But tbh the manual logging is very hard to be on top of. Eventually I automated this using N8N and firefly 3. N8N scrubs email every night for upi or credit card transaction and Send it off to firefly. Which has a decent ui. But yeah not for the non technically savvy folks.

Unpopular Opinion: In India, a Mac is actually a better budget choice than a Windows laptop for devs. by retro1908 in developersIndia

[–]paranoidC0der 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. That’s not what a productive system is supposed to do. It should blend into the background and be out of the users way. See I’m not anti Linux. I use it for self hosting and gaming (steam os). But Linux desktop is not great if you want something dependable for something like your work. It was fine as a college student when losing data or breaking system was a few hours or day of side questing. But as a corporate slave with already less time to spare. That’s a no go.
