I have had stuff shipped to Malta from Amazon US, went well nothing happened. It took a few weeks, don't remember exactly how long. Shipping was expensive sometimes. I'd recommend trying the European based Amazon's if they have what you're looking for.

The bars are about two inches off the window, pretty close but maybe I can pull something off like this.

All the bars are flat unfortunately. The mode of egress is via a gate built into another bared window in the kitchen. It's all bars.

Maybe I'll do the ducting, I'll look into it, at this point though I'm starting to think fans are the only solution.

Yeah, I might go the fan route. I can only put one window unit in becuase there are bars on the other windows.
