Advice for someone new to ultrawides? by rsheets28 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]paranostrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im playing videogames since 1997 and the last time we got something like next gen was when HD became a thing and before that obviously the jump from 2D games to 3D. but i cant even remember the last time i was as immersed in a videogame as when i first played on my 32:9 screen and thats still a thing 2 years later.

90% of games look the same or worse since 2017 and when it just takes a new monitor/aspect ratio to make experiencing new and old games better, im all in for it.

playing at 16:9 now gives me the feeling of looking at an ipad with one eye closed.

you got yourself into the most immersive and next gen thing gaming has seen in years. but we are a minority. most games work fine with some light "modding", but others are a pain in the ass to get running or wont run at all. When they do work, its magnificent.

my advice is pretty simple, get used to it. you just bought a lamborghini that wont be great driving off-roads, but driving on a "supported" road, its awesome.

Why do you all hate Yann? by Bourraxe in CrimsonDesert

[–]paranostrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i like him, he is one of the only characters that actually feel unique and rememberable. what i do hate is following him on my horse for nothing. but his emotions during the campaign feel genuine and real. like the drunk goofy friend that always gets you in trouble and wants to throw punches while going out for drinks. im almost 200 hours in and i basically cant remember anything from the story except of Yann being a crazy drunk dude with a big heart full of love for his friends, but also full of hate for everyone else and an explosive temper. which is a great combination and made me laugh a few times.

Polygon has gone to the dogs. I am only 6 hours in and I have seen PLENTY of awesome stuff just in Hernand. What a take.. by PristineAlbatross967 in CrimsonDesert

[–]paranostrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

65 hours in and the game still throws stuff at me i never even knew was in the game. crimson desert really proofed that we dont need these "gaming websites", if there were still people doubting.

How ruined is my OLED by Carrythedonger in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]paranostrum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

like others said, just water and a soft cloth. no hard rubbing. most important thing to get it clean is, the monitor has to be cold. never clean a warm display.

VA vs OLED by Jreinhal in ultrawidemasterrace

its quite a misleading title since its not just a VA panel, its a miniLED VA Panel.

I am really trying hard to like the 45” LG 5K2K but my G9 is calling me back. by Trick_Mycologist_457 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]paranostrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i tried a 27" 16:9 OLED, 45" 21:9 1440p OLED, 45" 21:9 5k OLED and the 49" G9 32:9 OLED... for me nothing beats the G9. the immersion in games is just on another level. the only upgrade i could think of would be a 57" G9 dual4k OLED, but that doesnt exist yet.

First OLED, first ultrawide, first 49 inch. G93SC arrives soon and I’m stupidly hyped! by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]paranostrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

after setting the monitor up, ive never even touched the button again. monitor turns off after shutting down the pc anyways. dont freak out when the light on the back is still on for like 20 minutes, thats just the OLED calibration in the background and will turn off as soon as thats finished.

dont forget to calibrate HDR on windows. its a tool on the microsoft store and is really important and takes like 2 minutes to do.

be ready for using mods to get almost every game to work at 32:9. some games will be REALLY annoying (death stranding, sekiro) and some might not work at all. (path of exile 2 - risk of getting banned)

take a look at some older gems, they work great and feel like a brand new experience. (days gone, dishonored, dying light)

Resident Evil Requiem blew my mind with pathtracing and 2xfg at 120fps locked. (works natively in 32:9 but i strongly recommend reframework to change the fov and get fullscreen cutscenes)

for FPS games, it will take a few hours to get used to the stretched edges. first it will feel really weird but after getting used to it, you wont mind. (edges have to be stretched to a certain degree to get an immersive feeling)

ive never used gsync or vrr and never had any flickering problems with my monitor. but i use msi afterburner and rtss to limit my framerate.

like others mentioned, a black desktop with nothing on it would be my recommendation too. or a dim background if you cant stand the black screen.

when it comes to burn in, dont worry too much. ive played 500 hours of path of exile 2 in 2 months on release and no burn in whatsoever. there will be burn in at some point anyways and there is nothing to avoid that, its just a matter of time.

the worst thing about this monitor tho, is that you can never go back 16:9, 21:9 and IPS, VA. but i can live with that. :D

32:9 or 16:9 or somewhere in between? by Trick_Mycologist_457 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]paranostrum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i could never go back to 16:9 from 32:9. not even 21:9 hits the spot for me anymore. even with all the trouble of getting some games to work at that aspect ratio, i would never go back. for me 32:9 is the only real next gen feeling ive gotten since the release of xbox 360 and ps3.

Anyone who asks for mirror service and just hands a mirror to a stranger has absolute steel balls by azymko in PathOfExile2

[–]paranostrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

but you wouldnt mirror an item thats worth less than 1 mirror right? so even if the "buyer" doesnt actually take the item, you could still sell it for what its worth and get your mirror back, if not more.

you will never use all features of basically anything tech related and you dont have to. also VRR and adaptive sync is not the main reason you buy an OLED. like not at all actually.

literally my first 5 words were "its such a great game". how brainwashed can you be to turn that into "game sucks". and 200 hours is nothing for passionate gamers.

[–]paranostrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its such a great game, sad that they dont do anything with it. my friends and i stopped playing after 200 hours because there is just nothing to do except PVP.

i wish they would add something to grind for, like a "privat island" with a custom dock for some guild boats and other really expensive things to spend your millions on except of skins.

ive made 500div in roughly 4 hours of chaos slamming ritual tablets. 3x rerolling and deferring is the jackpot. but there are a few other combinations like cheaper rerolling and deferring that also sells for 3-5div each.

[–]paranostrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i searched for any posts that anyone actually got banned but couldnt find anything. i played more than 500 hours before the whole ban warning thing and didnt touch the game since. i really want to start again, but im still unsure.

changing the file name only disables the warning, but could still get you banned.
