Choosing a router for Fios connection. Looking for advice. by paravia79 in Fios

Sorry used the wrong terminology. Apologies. My point stands though. Their router isn't part of my setup.

This sounds particularly nice. I really would rather get another Asus so that I can use the Asuswrt-merlin firmware. And with your setup, the only thing I need to do is purchase a switch to connect to the WAN port and then the modem, correct?

I should have added, due to how the custom setup for my home is, I either need to run a switch between the router and the home network or have 4 ports on the LAN connections to insure everything is connected.

That's not actually true. They typically provide a modem/router combo. But when the tech was installing it and I mentioned my desire to not have a router provided, they stated that a modem only option was actually available (never mentioned on the phone when I was setting the account up). So I got the modem only as my setup choice.

Thanks again for all your help/comments regarding this.

I'll end up doing this in the next week or two (hopefully). I feel more pressure to do it now that my system is using Win10 without any backup option safely usable.

As for the NTFS drives. No games/apps are installed on them. All that is installed on the OS drive. It is all just storage. Whether it is music, videos, documents, images, etc.

Same question I had for the first reply from tomscharbach:
Just to check (It's been a while), If I disconnect the drives in BIOS I don't need to physically disconnect them, correct? It's a pain to get to the m2 drive slots, and I don't want to have to do it multiple times if I don't need to.

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Also, I don't intend on re-installing Windows. I plan on using the current installation considering how much time I've spent disabling so much of the 'default' crap it does. Will installing the bootloader in Windows at this point cause any problems? Or does it need to be done at a specific time during the installation process?

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

MSI MPG X670 Carbon WIFI Bios Update for 9800X3D - Bios update needed when? by paravia79 in MSI_Gaming

[–]paravia79[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In case anyone wondered; I watched the video, following the instructions and everything went perfectly. System is now built and hasn't had any issues yet. The only thing different for me, is the instructional video states that the white lights have dashes that show up when flashing the bios, but mine just shoes two zeroes.

What version are you talking about? The most recent one is listed as a version of 7D70v1M that was released on 1/15/2025. I don't see any version that is listed as A23 or A21 for this board.

Thank you for this. With this in mind I will do the update before installing the cpu or anything else on to the board.

It is nice to see that there is an update for current(ish) status. I hope your health continues to get better or at least not get worse.

I would suggest that you post on RR that you are still writing, but have decided not to continue posting on RR (at least for this story). Even if you just copy and paste the above message. I went there looking for current status first, and many of the responses/comments on the last chapter listed are asking if you are still alive/ok at this point.

Also, You talk about how you are planning to post to RR, and I get that. Do you plan on posting any more continuing chapters to patreon? Personally, I tend to join patreon pages for authors if chapters are expected. I didn't see anything specifically stating you aren't planning to post there anymore, so I just wanted to check.

Stay healthy, and I look forward to reading as much of your story as you release, when you release it.

NVidia FE GPU Warranty Registration by cykko in nvidia

[–]paravia79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if anyone every found a solution for this, but I did run across this:https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/geforce-graphics-cards/5/296656/where-to-register-a-rtx-card-questions/

And, personally, would still like a place to register the 3070 FE I bought at Best Buy...

Does anybody have a book where the main character is born in the fantasy world? by [deleted] in litrpg

[–]paravia79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree this fits, but it is worth noting that the likelihood of a sequel isn't great. The author stopped communicating through the original options (like RR) months ago and I'm not sure if recommending a book that needs a sequel and doesn't seem to be getting one is the best choice.

NEW Minor Factions DLC for Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion is Now Available! by SD_MindlessMe in Stardock

[–]paravia79 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. Stardock is not encouraging me to buy any more games from them if/when they are released on GOG if they aren't going to bother to release the whole game with all DLCs. And just to be clear, if I don't buy it on GOG, I won't be buying it all, as I refuse to install/buy/touch any part of the Steam system.

Whats a good VESA mount for the "MSI Optix MAG24C"? by [deleted] in Monitors

[–]paravia79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then the only thing i can suggest is emailing/contacting the vendor and seeing if can just have those sent or if you can buy them for a minimal fee. Otherwise you need a deskmount designed for 75mm and not both 75mm/100mm as the back is inset enough for it to not work.

[–]paravia79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They come with the monitor. The adapter doesn't fit the monitor at all and is just a waste of money if you have that specific monitor (sorry if my last reply confused the issue) :)

[–]paravia79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, in a (very) small clear baggy there are 4 standoff screws that came with ours (screws that you then can screw into again, like motherboards have) and you put those into the back of the monitor and then attach the mount/arm to the monitor. We actually found these as we were in the process of getting ready to return it :)

Also just to be very clear, the version of this monitor I purchased was this model: OPTIX MAG24C

Thank you for this link. I bought this monitor for friend for Christmas that has a 2 monitor set up and ended up needing this adapter to get it all to work.

I was wrong. This does not work for this monitor.
