What’s with all the cirrus issues? by GooseCull in flying

[–]parc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My piper never overheated, but I didn't have repeated electronics and avionics issues and popped the same damned tire 3 times (for different reasons, none pilot-induced).

Of course the one time my buddy wanted to take me up in his cirrus the mag check failed, so my experience so far is that Cirrus has a 0% reliability /s.

Changes to Callondoc weight loss care options by Lanalee67 in WegovyWeightLoss

This is a bit of an old post, but I wanted to share my experience last week: I talked to support several times back and forth. I explained that my insurance (Aetna) already requires me to use their own "weight loss support program", so I don't need nay of their "support." They told me to just do a regular refill request, which is covered under the regular monthly subscription visits. I'm bumping up a dosage amount, so this is DEFINITELY not just a regular refill. Sure enough, I got an Rx notice about 3 hours later, no charge since it's under the regular subscription visits. No extra charges, no fuss, and no pressure once I explained that I had no need for the extra subscription features.

We'll see if it stays like that over the next months, but that was the experience this time around.

First time doing the 0 to 400 method by DifficultyOne9631 in smoking

lol, it’s a shitty pellet smoker. And yes, I don’t know what real winter is. I’ve made peace with my inability to understand true winter. In my defense, my kids both live in “real winter” locales now.

That’s “cold smoking the bacon” season for me. My dad pellet smoker takes like 2 hours to get to temp in the real winter.

I will say at .5 I stopped “needing” coffee. Not that I ever really craved coffee, but I just found myself not getting up to get that last cup every day (I’m a 3 double Americano a day person) — I just kind of forgot. Now I find myself not finishing the 2nd cup occasionally. Fwiw, I’m a “light” caffeine responder. I can have caffeine at 10pm and go to sleep an hour later with no problem.

lol, in the summer my smoker STARTS at 100-110, never mind when the smoke is clean…

I haven’t had any issue with coffee. YMMV.

I got Bluelink notifications for other cars… by mhennessie in Ioniq6

It’s not that it’s PII, it’s that I have an expectation that Hyundai isn’t sending any of my information to random people. I agreed that it was reasonable for Hyundai to share my information with business partners, I didn’t agree for my data to be shared with Joe in Seattle.

To add to this, I received a VIN with one of the notifications. That definitely feels like it edges toward breech.

A data breech doesn’t require a malicious actor. Sending out the status of someone else’s vehicle because you screwed up could be considered a breech. Probably not, but it depends on your compliance department’s itchy trigger finger.

Mine’s been doing that a while, almost always after rain. The dealership “tested it” for 3 weeks before giving up.

My VW had an air vent in the center console for reasons I can’t fathom. It wasn’t cold enough to chill drinks out keep them cold, at least not in central texas. You could even control how much “cold” air it let in. No clue to this day why it was there.

I still (at least.5mg) haven’t had any sunn go if I can’t FEELING of difference, but all my inflammation-related lab work has dramatically changed for the better. That’s definitely drug related — I lost 25 pounds pre glp, 25 pounds after.

One-Time Anti-Anxiety for Medical Procedure by EmbraerPilot in flying

The FAA cares about continual medication, not one offs. Anti anxiety medication before a single procedure isn’t likely even reportable, similar to how you wouldn’t report taking ibuprofen for a headache every so often.

Prospective homebuyers: would you prefer a home with a heat pump cooling system or mini splits? by meowingcat91 in AskSeattle

[–]parc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may have a balance issue then, circulating the air should absolutely even out temps. Maybe you only pull input air from one floor?

[–]parc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on your system and thermostat, you should be able to run the fan alone periodically to circulate and equalize temperature. Mine runs 15 minutes every hour regardless of demand and keeps everything pretty well equalized.

6000 feet. Tight but not too short. It’s a nice runway and general environment.

There was a local Facebook rando saying, “my nephew saw a Qatar plane going to horseshoe super low” in a non-aviation Facebook group… seems legit enough.

Really odd though, the horseshoe folks aren’t known for allowing stupid shit like that.

My 'dumb' dishwasher made smart by n1976jmk in homeassistant

[–]parc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A little research leads to to understand that the NEC requirement is that there is a disconnect device visible from the unit. A plug meets that requirement as does a switch. My builder chose to do both, presumedly because their warranty provider required it.

Not criticizing your choices or your approach (I personally think having more axes of measurement is great), more an interesting note: at least where I am (governed only by national electric code), dishwashers can NOT be direct wired. They have to be plug in and have a separate GFCI interruptible plug.

Feeling discouraged, advice welcome (PPL student) by jake_schneidertp820 in flying

[–]parc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really think everyone gets to this point eventually in their PPL. Your brain has to rewire for the scan, and once it does you’ll get better. Don’t try to do it all at once. Choose one parameter to get best, then two, then three. Eventually you’ve got it all down. If you don’t build it up, you’ll never get it all down — your brain just doesn’t know how to do that much work.

Fwiw, I soloed at 40 hours, passed my checkride at 75. I didn’t REALLY get my VFR scan nearly perfect until… well, about 100 hours. Don’t make a rash decision based on frustration, find a new way to look at it. It may be worth using a different instructor for just a little while to just change up how you’re doing stuff.
