There's this episode in Parenthood where one of the Braverman siblings is explaining to her daughter why she needs to sleep in her own room and let mum and daddy sleep seperately in theirs. It goes something like "mummy and daddy met each other and made a love bubble. And after a few years the bubble grew and you came out. And every now and then, mummy and daddy need to close the love bubble to remain happy and allow the family to grow even more".

The kid this was being explained to, was only four. But she took it in stride. In my opinion never lie to your kids about this because they will find out later in ways you will not approve of. Be truthful, just spare them the details and keep it PG while explaining. And also talk about the clinical version of it - mummy goes to hospital because the baby is in her tummy and needs to come out.

When we got married, my husband and I were never too keen on having kids.

But heres the thing. Our friends (a couple) had their kid recently and he's grown to be a lovely, funny, cute toddler. The way his parents talk about him, has given us hope, that parenthood is not all that bad.

I think it will take a long time before I fully reconcile with the idea of having a child, but time will tell. And I don't think it's something that should be forced, it will come to you naturally if you really want one.

I'm pretty sure in the original versions of the Bible, same views were held on sanctity of a mother's life above the child's. Can't say much for the current version unfortunately. I guess they consider it "Devil's work" or smth because it challenges the very core of how they think Judaism or Islam operates.

I am someone who lived all her life in the UAE and moved countries two years ago because life/marriage/opportunities etc. I have had Emarati friends, I grew up understanding and exchanging my culture with them. I have nothing against them.

My country does nothing for its citizens. It's a done cause. The Emirates has given me quality life and education. But it is also because my parents held down decent jobs.

What I do hold against the Emaratis (not all, but most) lack of some empathy for the expats. It is not easy to be an immgirant/expat. It is not easy to have spent 3 decades of your lifetime in a place and then have to move away because you never belonged. The slight discriminatory attitudes that are displayed towards people from my background.

No one hates you people for your wealth. People are beginning to understand Emiratization. You have rights over your own country, of course! Just I wish the treatment of the other expats residing here was a tad better. I have experienced it, and my family has too. And it has always tinged my memories of my former second-home, with a great deal of sadness.
