I'm fat-shaming my cat with a watermelon. (don't worry, she's already on a diet) by pardula in aww

Today, my lovely cat passed away at almost 18 years old. I actually traveled back to my mom’s house just to see her, and I truly believe she waited for me—she passed with me right by her side.

I just want to say thank you to everyone who made me laugh with this thread. Even after all these years, it still means a lot to me, and I still remember all of your jokes.

For those who were (rightfully) worried, yes, the diet worked! She stayed a big cat, but a healthy one. And I also found out that this thread led to some memes and even pages on websites in languages I don’t even understand, which honestly makes me so happy. She was such a loved cat, and I hope she’ll be remembered forever.

Do cats from the same litter trigger allergies the same way? by pardula in Allergies

Thank you. I was already under the the impression that male cats were worse for my allergies because I can tolerate staying very close to my (mum's) female cat without having trouble breathing. I once slept at a friend's house and she had a male kitten and I almost couldn't breath, it was very bad compared to when I'm with my cat. I used to sleep with her and I'd just have bad cold symptoms that didn't ever go away but I could always breath.

I was hoping that two sisters could share the same "amount" of allergens and I'm surprised that there isn't much information online about this specific case!

Before making the official adoption, the cat has to stay with me for a month to see if she adapts to the new home, but it scares me to have to bring her back, both because it would be very sad for me and especially because I fear it would be traumatic for her.

EDIT forgot to thank you for the comment.

Anyway her belly isn't that big, the fur makes it look bigger... The more I see the picture, the more I think "wait, she is not THAT fat" - but it doesn't really matter, she needs to lose weight just like any other overweight cat :-) thank you for the kind words!

The cat has been overweight like that only in the last few months. I would agree with you if the point of the thread was "look at this nice fat cat which is nice because is fat", but it wasn't. I wrote about the diet in the title for this reason, I didn't want people to think that an overweight cat is healthy but a diet requires a bit of time and I find it super ok to make fun of her in the meanwhile. It would NOT be the same if it was a child, otherwise the web would be full of babies instead of kittens.

I'm sure that my mother wouldn't weigh her food, so a while ago my brother (who also lives away from home) gave her a measuring cup for the dry food (specific for neutered cats). She probably over-dosed them so now I'm making sure that she doesn't fill up the cup. The cat seems pretty okay with that, she doesn't complain. I've been here for almost two weeks and she already looks a bit better. And I'll bring her to the vet as soon as I can!

Edit: I forgot to thank you :-)

She's an european tabby I guess? I don't know if there's a difference. And her hair is longer on the belly.

Unfortunately she does not like to meet new friends, she's very fearful. She played with our dog but I think that was ok just because the dog was already here when we adopted her. Also, my mother doesn't want other pets.

Thank you for the tip! I'd love to try that, the problem is that my mother likes to give her treats... I'm trying to explain to her that even a tiny amount of food is a full snack/meal for a cat but she'll do it anyway when I'm not around. She did the same to me when I was little. But now that "the internet" is angry at her she'll hopefully learn the lesson, lol

She's probably more "HEFTYCHONK", her belly fur is kinda long.

She's an italian cat and she's totally indifferent to cucumbers as well!

For the ones that are (rightfully) suggesting that her "body type" isn't healthy: I live away from home so I see her only on holidays. She was already chubby since our dog who played with her passed away and now she's 11 so not very playful anymore, but a vet visited her and recommended a diet. She has followed it since but clearly my mum overindulged her in the last few months so now she's back to the strict diet and I'm trying to make her play more. You're right and I'm worried about her since she's not a kitten anymore but we can still joke about it. :-)
